Icon2 Dizzy on wrong?

So I put a new distributor on my 98 ek hatch with a stock d16y7. The weird thing is the rotor points to the number two spark plug wire at tdc. The old one pointed to the number one. I put the new distributor on the exact way the old one was on. So does the fact that the new one points to the number two spark plug matter? Kind of new to this stuff its my first car lol. Any help is greatly appreciated.

move all the plug wires back one so the pointer is pointing at one again and see if it fires up. firing order should be 1-3-4-2 or
1 3
2 4

so if its pointing at 2 put plug wire 1 where 2 is and 2 where 4 is and so on.

Are you sure it's pointing to 2?

I don't believe its 180deg out of alignment because i set it to tdc before putting it on. It only goes on one way. But when the motor is at tdc the camshaft slot where the distributor goes in is going up and down and the slot on the back of the distributor is sideways. If you move the rotor on the distributor to match the camshaft then the rotor is pointing to the number two plug wire. I bought the distributor rebuilt, I believe at this point it could have been rebuilt wrong.

When you set the motor at TDC are you verifying that the cam AND crank gears are correctly aligned? Because 180 degrees out or not you should only be able to have the rotor point to 1 or 4 (180 degrees apart). To be pointing at either 2 or 3 your mechanical timing would have to be altered...or you got the wrong/poorly rebuilt distributor (or you are ordering the plug wires incorrectly).
