Default Distributor problem!! need some advice!!

ok i was out having fun with my car doing burn outs, all of a sudden my rpm just drops and motor dies, try starting it, motor just cranks but doesn't fire. Checked for spark and there was none, so i knew it had to be the distributor coil. Took out the dead coil and replaced it with a new but used one and it started right up! Was happy, normally droved it around the block came to a stop light and guess what?? RPM just dropped to 0 and motor just died out again!! So now im using a friends Distributor and it's working fine! Could this be something with the Distributor itself? cause it just fryed 2 freaking Coils!!

It sounds like your ignitor inside the dizzy.

In addition to replacing the coil, you should also replace the cap, rotor, plug wires, and plugs. The coil will blow if it cannot find ground through these downstream components of the ignition system.

doesn't that just messes only with the rpm and not cost the engine to die like how it did?

so this could mean that the distributor is still good but just the components are bad?

If you plan to keep the car, buy a rebuilt dizzy. Trust me it's cheaper in the long run and less headaches in the coming month's.

Any auto parts store should have them.

Here's one link

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/Pro...pe=218&PTSet=A

that's for a
1996 ACURA INTEGRA GSR L4 1.8 Liter FI

I'm sure you can take it from here...

get it checked first
and might as well check the battery too
it's $15 at pepboys
so do that and if it's not that then i'd probably check the alternator

If the dizzy has more than 150k miles on it, replacing it with a rebuilt one makes good sense. Nonetheless, if the coil has been blowing due to bad plug wires or plugs, the coil in the rebuilt distributor is just going to blow again.

I don't think the plugs or plug wires got anything to do with it, cause im using the same plugs and wires with a buddys distributor and it's fine! been smashing on my car without a problem now.
