Re: Directions on how to change brake pads (LOWLIFEHATCH)
Here's a suggestion, don't change anything when it's that cold out. Things are more brittle and prone to breaking, unless you plan on heating up the area.

Loosen lug nuts on both wheels
*Run inside and thaw
Jack up car and put on jack stands.
*Run inside and thaw
Remove caliper reatining bolt and brake line bolt. 10mm I believe.
*Run inside and thaw
Do the other side
*Run inside and thaw
Remove old pads on both sides, they slide out in the middle.
*Run inside and thaw
Open the hood and remove the brake fluid res. cap.
*Run inside and thaw
Get a clamp and a piece of wood. Put the wood over the brake piston and use the clamp to push it all the way into the caliper.
*Run inside and thaw
Now do the other side.
*Run inside and thaw
Now, while inside, get the pads ready and go and place them in the caliper the way you took out the old pads.
*Run inside and thaw
Do the other side.
*Run inside and thaw
Now, place the caliper back over the disk making sure the pads go around the disk (not that hard you cannot get the caliper on unless they are)
Bolt it back onto the mount, along with the brake line.
*Run inside and thaw
Do the other side, same as above.
*Run inside and thaw
Mount wheels back on and hand tighten lugs.
*Run inside and thaw
Lower car off of jack stands.
*Run inside and thaw
Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern.
*Run inside and thaw
Test drive later.

I don't recall having to remove that before. Do you have to? (been a long time since I got rid of those piece of **** Akebono calipers and upgraded to the Nissin's.)

No I just do it so I can set the Caliper on the suspensio without worries of a tweaked brake line.

Re: Directions on how to change brake pads (shawnhayes)
Ok I just did my rear discs this past weekend. I am a newbie too and I had a hard time figuring out but I got it. First, just jack your car up like normal. Take off whatever side tires you're doing. Then, take off the heatshield if its covering the two bolts holding the caliper to the arm. Next, use a 14mm socket and remove the two bolts holding the caliper in place. After you take out the two bolts gently with a screw driver (try not to scratch the rotor), pry the caliper apart and the brake pads should fall out. Next, properly place the brake pads where they should go. Then you are going to have to push the piston back into the bore. Mine was a big *** cross looking thing so I used a big *** screw driver to push it back in. You might want to use a C CLAMP for this. After it's pushed back in you will then replace the new pads to where the old pads were. Put the caliper over the brake pads. Put the two 14mm bolts back into the caliper and screw them on. Screw the heatshield back on too if you took that off. Put the tires on, and you're good to go.

Rear discs on the Civic/Integra must be "screwed" in by using a screwdriver or a special Honda tool. If you just "push" them in without rotating them in properly, you can ruin the piston/parking brake.

tru dat... we did that wit a car in our autoshop. But we hate the teacher so we prolly did it on purpose. The omni had no friggin engine and is scratched by every student in shop for like that last 10 years.
