if it was from a 99-00 civic si it would say b16a2. if it doesn't then its an overseas motor. search for a topic in here about identifing the years of b series motors. it explains were to look on the head to find the year produced and it came in a car the year after that.

There will be a year stamped on the head itself.

Look over where the header bolts to the head and it will have a stamp like 8/9 if it's an 89 model, 9/3 if it's a 93, etc.

nope. b16a2 is the code for a 99-00 si and I'm not sure about the del sols but I know that some of them were b16a2's and some were b16a3's depending on the year.

As far as I know there is no difference, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe the only difference would be that they came from cars that are either obd2a or obd2b.

Difference is the A3 is OBD1 and the A2 is OBD2, and the A3 has one or two less sensors.

no difference in power between the A3 and A2 but there is with the first generation b16. Has to do with the cams...

I hate to do this to you again but the 2nd generation b16 is the only b16 (other than b16b) that has different horsepower numbers. The second gen b16's have like 170 or something in that ballpark.

according to my knowledge, b16a3 puts out 160hp@7600rpm and 111lbs@7000rpm

but whatever... i'm not going to try to convince myself that my engine is making 10hp more.

but if you are talking about the JDM b16 one it does make 170hp

No.

OBD1 second-gen 170hp B16a engines simply say "B16A" on them too.

Also the B16A3 is the 1993-1995 Del Sol VTEC engine.

B16A2 is the 96-97 Del Sol VTEC and 99-00 Civic Si engine.
