Detonation

Detonation
I noticed from time to time my engine will knock. Even when it's cool in the morning. Would running a colder spark plug reduce the knocking as well as using water wetter? Would replacing my fuel filter help?
Here's my setup:
b7/z6 mini me
y8 stock NGK plugs
stock y7 cam
ignition set at 16* BTDC
89 octane gas
stock p28 ecu

Try to borrow someone else's auto P28 and check if it does the same thing. The Y7 cam sets TDC to spec on a Mini-Me and the timing is to spec.
Have you tried messing around with the timing? Is everything set to TDC on the crank and cam? No teeth skipping?

I haven't really touched the ignition timing. I've only messed with the cam timing by swapping out the z6 for the y7 to compensate the half tooth error. That's about it. Here's my little write-up I did for D-Series on my y7 cam gear install. Check it out and see if it's right...

I checked the cam timing along with the ignition timing, and this is what I found:

Re: (Deemeetree)
well i resetted the cam back to zero and now i'm unable to set the ignition timing to 16*. with how the cam gear is now, the ignition timing is all the way retarded. the ignition timing is roughly 20* BTDC. when I give quickly give it throttle it doesn't bog and knock as bad. If I tried to advance the timing to get it close to 16* and quickly give it throttle, it would bog and knock and pick back up like normal.
What do you think?

Take your timing belt off the cam gear, and re-install it. You might have to do this several times. Every time you adjust your timing belt the cam gear will be at a different position relative to the crank. I had to do this several times to get the range of ignition timing values that I wanted. Get an adjustable cam gear, that will allow you to get 0 degrees of cam timing and 16 degrees of ignition timing. Also, a B7/Z6 is 10:1 so I never use anything below 93 octane (if you're in cali, use 91).

What the hell? That's why he posted this here so people could help him out. That doesn't help one bit. Can you solve his problem? I HIGHLY doubt it since you posted this bologna.
******* n00b.
As far as the problem, put back the Z6 cam gear and set from there. I think the main problem is the Y7 cam gear.

Re: (b204dr)
What? A non-vtec y7 cam in a z6 head just... what? How would that fix a 1/2 timing issue? The y7 cam doesn't have vtec lobes, how does that even fit in there?
edit: Nevermind, I was only questioning the first post.

Re: (DanW)
The y7 cam gear keyway is offsetted roughly 4.75*. Using it in conjunction with a b7/z6 mini me will correct the half tooth error caused by using the stock z6 cam gear.
There is a difference in block height between the 1.5L and the 1.6L and so that's why using the y7/8 stock cam gear fixes the difference in block height and sets the cam to 0* on a b7/z6 mini-me swap.
