Default mini me swap gurus! I need your help!

Lately, I've been trying to get my engine to run right. I've been experiencing knocking and somewhat poor performance. Not to mention, the rear of my car is covered with black soot from the exhaust.

here's my setup:
d15b7 block
z6 head
z6 intake manifold
z6 distributor
z6 timing belt
z6 head gasket
d15b7 injectors
d15b7 fuel pressure regulator
d15b7 throttle body
d15b7 NGK spark plugs
ignition timing set at 16* BTDC
z6 cam gear
89 octane gas
virgin auto p28 ecu
4-2-1 header
2.25" piping
stock cat
cold air intake

I have no CELs whatsoever.

I'm getting a knocking driving in the morning when it's cool and driving in the afternoon when it's blazing hot. When I quickly give it throttle from idle, the engine will knock and bog down, and quickly accelerate. I've been trying different cam and ignition timing settings and get the same results. I've tried different settings with the z6 cam gear and the y7 cam gear.

I miss my stock b7

edit: I just took the y7 cam gear out and put back in the z6 cam gear and adjusted ignition timing to 16*. I'm getting pinging/knocking at heavy load and vtec crossover.

I'm pretty sure that setup yields pretty high compression and you should be running at least premium.

not to flame or jack a thread but isnt it cheaper and more eficient to just buy a d15b vtec engine for 300 instead of just swaping the head. isnt it the same hp and it was already made like that, just wondering not hating.

using the compression calculator, it theoretically yields a 10.1:1 compression ratio. I'd figure I can get away with 89 octane. I think a d15b has a C/R of 9.4:1 and people run 87 just fine.

a d15b will come out to 600+for other parts to fix it and install. my timing belt went and i had an extra head laying around and i slapped it on my b7 block. car was a beater since i got into a wreck not too long before i got this car. needed the car up asap for work and school.

so you already had the parts to take advantage of, but others dont and i just wonder why they go that way, i went the easy way and got a cmplt d15b for 300.00 and only required little mods here and there.
