DESPERATE FOR HELP, jdm b16a swap in a 99 civic hatch. honda experts chime innn!
I really need to be pointed at the right direction right now, because I feel like I've tried everything.
I've been slowly finishing up my swap (OBDI B16A) into my 99 ek. I am using a 99 em1 engine harness, with OBDII components. When I first completed the swap, my speedometer didn't function and it ate batteries within a few hours.
After going through several alternators and batteries, I finally bought one from my local Honda dealer. Finally the speedometer works but all of a sudden it has the same symptoms.
I ran errands today with the car and it ran perfectly fine, vtec kicking in hard, and no bouncing problems with the idle at all. I drove it for approximately 2 hours.
I got home and adjusted my short shifter, thus having to take off the exhaust. After putting everything back in, same symptoms as before I had the Honda OEM alternator. I'm sure it can't be my starter, because I got jumped started out of desperation.
I cleaned all my grounds and still to no avail.
I don't know if my idling problem is related, but as far as I can see, it is not. The car used to startup and idle at 1 grand for approximately 15 seconds, then shoot up and down to 2 grand. It used to bounce violently when out of gear.
Now (when it has power) it sits at 1500 and doesn't bounce whatsoever.

I would redo all your grounds and check you main harness ground on the thermostat housing if you havnt checked that. But you can also check wires with a voltmeter and see which ones are getting power that shouldnt and that could be your battery drain problem.
Good luck, sometimes things can be so frustrating but in the end its all worth it.

the answer about the idle is from the b16 using a idle air control located on the intake mani, your year hatch does not have that, well it does but its electronic, to answer your question... hook it up all sensor like a stock motor, nothings changed, ok.. then proceed with all the sensors that arent hooked up like the idle air control, you would have to pin it directly from the ecu to the connector.. to have it run correctly.. try that.. it should work.

help us get this car running, anyone have any idea where a possible short could be overlooked causing the car to die out constantly?
does anyone know where the em1 harness doesnt match up to the OBD1 b16?
there a couple of sensors floating around that havent been identified on the car yet, but all the ones needed to make the car run are plugged(tps, main 02, knock sensors, water temp, etc?)
i'll look into the aforementioned IACV, but i don't think that will make car die out like its been doing.
all the metal connectors and grounding points have been sanded to provide good conductivity.
are we overlooking something!?!?
bump for an answer?

Did you wire your alternator properly? I can't remember for sure but when i swapped my 00 EK hatch over, the alternator was different (OBD1 motor) hence i had to rewire it.

all the components have been switched over to OBDII, thus theres no need to rewire it.
It has an OBDII dizzy, alternator, etc.
PLEASE...we needa get this car running.
