Del Sol Targa Top Seals

Del Sol Targa Top Seals
I was cleaning and lubing the targa top for the first time and noticed something. On both sides of the targa top, there is a 1/4" metal channel that lies inbetween the rubber seals and the plastic trim that lines the underside of the targa top (which would be the ceiling from within the car).
My question is whether the channel is supposed to be covered by the rubber flap that is part of the seal, or if it's supposed to be tucked beside the metal channel on the side lining the seal, thus exposing the channel. The flap reminds me of a windshield wiper blade.
On one of the channels, about 2" from the front and back are covered by the flap and the rest of the middle is exposed (tucked in). On the other side almost all of it was covering the channel, except for a 3" part that was tucked in. Based on these observations I wasn't sure what was the way to go.
SO, should the seals be tucked in throughout the entire length of the channel, not tucked in, or left to cover just a portion of the ends?
