Well, think about what else is removable.
The roof pops out because it's a function of the car. The trunk opens as a function of the car too (some cars overseas had the transtop as well, which was a power roof - the trunk lid would lift straight up and the roof slide underneath it, then the trunk lid and roof would lower back into the trunk).
The doors open, the side and rear windows roll down, the hood opens, the gas door opens.
Besides that the only large parts of the car that are removable, they're removable only in the sense that they can be unbolted and removed from the car, like replacing a tail light.
