Default del sol lowering problem

I am helping a friend lower a 93 del sol, He bought the skunk 2 (2.5") lowering springs and Agx 4 way adjustable shocks. My problem is when you put the assembley together correctly the nut on top goes all the way down snug aginst the end of the threads without forming tension in the spring, Because the shocks are for 1.5" lowered. The car will hold tension on the spring but because the nut bottoms out it forms a space between the two bushings and the shock bracket. I am worred that play will cause an annoying clunking and possibly damage the shock. I know i should have a shock for 2.5" lowering springs but is there anyway these will work. Thank you very much.
