Del Sol
Does anyone know if they ever produced a Del Sol with a 1.8L or not? Also did they ever turbocharge? I know this is a newbie question but what the hell Im a newbie.

No the Del Sol was never offered here in the U.S with a 1.8L motor, nor did they offer any turbocharged models. Honda has not ever offered a turbo'd production car here in the U.S. They did have some turbocharged gasoline and diesel engine'd cars overseas though, and they still offer some if I'm not mistaken. However again, none of these were Del Sols.
As far as U.S-Spec Del Sols go:
S model - 102hp from 1993-1995 106hp from 1996-1997
Si model - 125hp from 1992-1995 127hp from 1996-1997
VTEC model - 160hp DOHC VTEC from 1993-1997

Re: Del Sol (B18C5-EH2)
That is great info thanks. It would seem reasonable to assume that the Vtec Delsol is as quick as the teg gsr if not quicker. Am I missing something?

Well, the thing with the VTEC del Sol is that it had the B16, which has less torque than the B18c1 in the GSR. I believe the VTEC Sol is a little lighter than a GSR, though, so it would probably prove to be a driver's match IMO.
http://www.teamdelsol.com is down right now, but keep checking it to see if it comes back up. Lots of imformation there.
In the meantime, you can use www.edmunds.com for general HP and weight specs.

The Integra GS-R has more hp at 170 and about 20 more ft/lbs. of torque to the WHEELS.
The Del Sol's are actually heavier than the Civics, and they aren't much (if any) lighter than an Integra GS-R.
I believe the last time I checked a 1995 GS-R weighed like 2550lbs. while the Del Sol VTEC weighed 2520lbs. or so.
The Del Sol VTEC isn't really as quick as most might think. If I absolutely HAD to have a Del Sol I'd get the Si model or even the S model (because they're easier to find and cheaper) and swap in a B18C5 into it.

Just a small correction:
94-97 delSol VTECs = 2491-2522 lbs.
About 135 whp, 94 lb/ft of torque dynoed (160 hp @ 7600 rpm, 111 lb/ft @7000 rpm stock). Redline 8250.
94-01 GSR's = 2665-2672 lbs.
About 143 whp, 108 lb/ft of torque dynoed (170 hp @ 7600 rpm, 128 lb/ft @ 6200 rpm stock). Redline 8000.
That's a difference between the GSR and the delSol VTEC of 143-181 lbs., depending on model - that's an entire passenger!
Power difference - about 8 whp and 14 lb/ft.
delSol Power->Weight Ratios (assume 150lb. driver):
(2491+150) = 2641 lbs / 135 whp = 19.56
(2522+150) = 2672 lbs / 135 whp = 19.79
GSR Power->Weight Ratios (assume 150lb. driver):
(2665+150) = 2815 lbs / 143 whp = 19.69
(2672+150) = 2822 lbs / 143 whp = 19.73
In summary - I'd say it was a wash for performance between the two cars.

Re: Del Sol (go_noles28)
The hatch is lighter as a result of the extra body reinforcement used on the del Sol (for the pop top). Everything else is essentially the same mechanically, it really just depends on what you want the car for. I'd recommend for a track car go with a CX hatch just for the weight advantage. Cruiser/street car, just depends on personal preference. I love the convertible/hard top aspect (not a fan of rag tops). I also like the 2 seater appeal, and find that the interior is more to my tastes (IMO, more sporty than the Civic). Of course if you're going to gut the car, thats not an issue!
Ride in a del Sol and a hatch to see what you prefer. That's the only way to make a truly informed decision.

My B16A laid down 143whp and 102 torque.
The torque alone would account for why the GS-R is quicker.

Re: Del Sol (go_noles28)
all these guys do know their stuff, but i went with the sol cause it was different and i think it's sleeker. the cx is the best platform for speed though due to the weight. hatches are really clean in their own right though, so all you really need to do is see what you want out of the car and which style you prefer.
