Default Decisions Decisions

So I bought a 92 Si about two months ago with the full intention of swappin in a new motor to make it a fast lil weekend warrior. 12oo in bodywork kinda delayed my plans... I find myself thinking about what I'm gonna do next. I plan on AutoX'ing this car alot, but I'll prolly play on the street as well (sue me).

I have $8oo to spend right now, and I don't know what to do...

Right now I have EVERYTHING stock, d16z6 and failing exhaust... What should I do?

I could get some bolt ons right now, but if I ever DID swap in a B series in place of my d series motor, that would be a waste of money...

I can afford to get the B16 alot sooner than the B18C1... and thus, afford to turbo or supercharge the B16 alot sooner.

Would the power output be significantly MORE with the B18 than the B16 witha trubo to justify spending another $1k?

Please don't reply telling me its "your choice" too, because I'm stuck between all of these choices and I want outside opinions.

Thanks for your opinions, the more specific you can be, the better. Thanks again!!!!

I would go ahead and make sure the rest of the car is ready for a new motor. How about a suspension or some appropriate wheels/tires? Brakes are a good place to start, too.

I agree with mike.

About the GSR vs B16 motor.. if u can get a B16 easier/cheaper than go that route. It doesnt make any sense to spend more on a motor that has higher compression and a worse intake if you are going FI.

I wouldn`t turbo a car you are planning on autocrossing. Susp, brakes, tires and learn how to drive

Would the turbo interfere with autocrossing? I've been to a few AutoX's...I know I won't be getting the low end power from the turbo in the autox's...

But I said too, that I wanna be able to play with this car in a straight line just as much as I can with turns...

why not b18b? Later you can add a vtec head or boost. Much better in torque than the b16, less expensive to start, and better end result.

I've always been pushed away from the B18B by a friend because of some rod/stroke issues and how that might prove to be unreliable.... I was basically looking for a full swap that'll be reliable for my daily driver. Someone that will be easy to get in there and I'll see a decent increase in power right away, allowing me to work up to forced induction when I'm ready.

I've kinda hexed the idea of staying with my D16 since a friend already heard about me wanting to swap and is interested in the motor....

So right now I'm still caught between the B18 and B16...

Thanks for the help

I`d save a few more pennies and get the b18c if you are set on a swap. You have an SI so your car has a few extra pounds to haul around.

Go for the b18c. But efore you even do that, you should consider upgrading your suspension and brakes first.

Good luck!
