Default Daily driven LS Turbo Hatch?

Hey i usually don't post that much since my cr-x got stolen (r.i.p 3.25.05), but now i'm past that and on to another car. I recently picked up an LS hatch from my mechanic that used to work on my old car, LS vx hatch with gsr tranny. I took it out here from cali to phoenix. I was pondering, should i just keep the car stock, go ls vtec, or ls turbo. I'm mostly an all motor person, but the idea struck me when i was talking to someone at the honda dealership to go ls tubro. its gonna be a daily driver and driven to tempe almost every day (about a 14 min drive from downtown phoenix to tempe). I can buy my friends turbo kit for about 1,000 and have it installed at full race motorsports here in tempe for 1000 i believe ( i don't remember the price), or i can take it back to my mechanic in cali because i'm saving up to get new rings in a few months and while he's doing the rings, do the lsvtec setup while he's at it. info is very appreciated!

Choice is yours, and yours only. Both set ups, done right will make for a decent daily driver.

yeah what he said as long as its tuned it will make a nice daily drive ls-turbo will make alot more power than an lsvtec say ls w turbo on 10 pounds maybe 250hp lsvtec i think is like 180?(not sure on that one) but yeah id go ls turbo my budy has a turbo ls integra and runs 13s so in a hatch it would be a nice daily driven set up. He also drives far everyday... O yeah AZ is badasss...... and i dont think the drive is to bad eaither..

1grand to have it installed . . . . . . ide do it for you for a mere 50 dollars . . . . its easy, unless the 1 grand includes a nice dyno tune . . .

Just remeber that if you go with the turbo route, you're probably gonna have to fill her with premium to avoid detonation. $$$ But if that's not a major concern than go for it.

A properly tuned N/A build WON'T be using 85 octane...

Agreed, dont forgot that AZ gets really damn hot.

Run lower boost during the summer & make sure you do everything to not let the engine get heat soaked.

getting a little off topic.. have some heroes that wanna do both.. ls vtec turbo.. yea u'll runs 10's.. lol...great numbers for a daily driver...throw the turbo on there...6-8 pounds of boost... u can drive around and still conserve on gas and get the hp when u want it...and it has more hp than vtec...but if u like the n/a route...do the PROPER mods to have the vtec head and tune it...nice numbers however your compression will be higher so ur motor will be under stress more often but thats what honda is made for...and the gas mileage won't be the greatest but still good none the less...but like the guy said above...your choice..

I have an lsvtec dd. Wouldnt have anything else!! Its great on gas, dependable, and Ive got right @ 300whp. Ive taken it to the track a couple of times and the best Ive ran so far was a 12.5. (ive got a major traction problem, stock gsr tranny, no traction bars) The only thing else Id recomend you to do (if you go turbo) is to get a nice radiator. the turbo WILL make your engine bay temps higher and usually the stock radiator has problems trying to compensate. Another good plus is being able to "whoop up" on the dumb rednecks in mustangs on the way home from work........... I just realized that not everyone lives in south GA

man that's sounds like a good idea, but would lsvtec turbo be a good idea for a daily driver? i'm assumming yer doing that on a built block. but as far as doing the turbo setup, would it be safe to run 10 lbs of boost on factory internals?

That depends on the size of the turbo inlet and exhaust. If you had my turbo, Id think you would be safe at around 8lbs of boost. Trust me, that would be plenty on a d.d.

if you do ls turbo for daily driving purpose i would recommend slap n a ls tran to it. this would help on gas mileage and also longer gears for the turbo to spool. i have a ls turbo hatch and i just got rid of my jdm b16 trans because that sucker would do a number on some gas i know that b16 and gsr have different gears but it is not that far off and it will burn some gas up, just something for you to think about.
but ls turbo is what i would recommend you will be happy even if you do keep the gsr trans

na sucks, unless you like spending more money to go slower.

check my sig. ls turbo dd. low boost 9 psi, high boost 14psi. all day long, just get it tuned right and change your oil and plugs often. keep an eye on things.
you can always get your vtec head later if you want, thats what i am doing this winter

later

He hit it right on the head. You don't have to do everything right now. I will boost and tune it this winter. And probably go vtec and re-tune the following summer. Or do vice-versa.

Either-way its all about the tune.... this cannot be overstated. Boost or vtec, you'll need to get the damn thing properly tuned. Especially if you really want to drive it daily.

I got a EG coupe LS motor with the GSR tranny turbo'd as my daily driver. Im running AEM with a good tune and I run 14psi daily on the car with no problems. I have 750cc injectors so it does go through gas kinda quick but you could get away with 440's and run 10psi daily.

ok as far as parts, what would i need? well of course turbo and piping, intercooler, and plugs. what size fuel pump should i get? 255? i've got a friend that's selling a t3/t4 turbonetics turbo for 1200, the only thing i need is just fuel pump, and he said someother thing too, but i forgot. you guys think that's a pretty good price? i mean all i need is just fuel pump and that other thing he said, i remember him saying something about clamps for something.

what enigine management? what injectors? to much for that turbo you can probably find a new one for that much!!! and i am running a 255 and it works great so for the price i would go for a 255! and if you are running engine management, but if not you might need a map difencer! turbo timer? wastegate? bov? gaskets? **** like that!
