Default B16 tranny problems

My friend has a b16 tranny I am looking at buying. Only problem is it does not go into reverse, no grinding just dont go in. How hard would it be to fix, or how much would a shop charge to fix. Everything else works great.

i guess that depends on how much he wants for it. transmission work is really expensive. if you learn to do it yourself i'd say for for it if its really cheap. but trans work is hard, i wouldn't touch a transmission

Hmm, I am getting it for 250. its my buddy so you know. But I would hate for it to cost a arm and a leg.

Have you worked on a transmission before? It's pretty difficult, but it can be done of course. I worked on mine twice, and vowed never to do it again.

If you want to try it, get yourself a Helms manual for the Civic Si and start from there. The transmission section is very complete and will tell you everything you need. $250 is very good, and I would go ahead and either try to repair it yourself or have it done at a transmission repair facility.

If you have the transmission out already, I'm sure it won't cost you that much. Perhaps a couple hundred, if that. There's probably something inside that's out of alignment. Even if they do charge you $300-400, it's still less than most used B16 trannies anyway, right?

The b16 tranny is simple to take apart and reassemble. The trick is doing it more than once so you know how to. I am not saying it will be easy if you have never taken one apart, but someone who regularly repairs these they are a piece of cake.

It probably aint that hard, I may try it myself, or just take to some people, that way I know its done right and I still come out cheaper than buying one that works and all, yeah it would be taking out before I take it over to the shop.
Thanks all
