d16z6 turbo build in a 94 ex coupe
Hey everyone, I wanted some solid advice on what to do with this d16z6 motor. I just upgraded the suspension in this car. Skunk2 springs, kyb agx adj shocks, skunk2 camber kit. Here comes the fun part, the motor which has around 188,000 miles on it...is this worth taking to a machine shop and having it built for a turbo or should I get a new motor?
I would rather go with the sohc turbo setup with my budget. So I guess what im asking is (im new to this) WHAT do I need to have done to this motor before I turbo it, and is it safe to rebuild or whatever on such a high mileage motor? Please help because I want to get the ball rolling on this sometime this coming week. Thanks again for the input in advance!

With 188K a turbo isn't really all that safe, depending on the boost you plan on running. I ran a turbo for awhile it was really fun and the car pulled like a sombitch. Then the motor blew so I moved onto bigger and better things, now I'm dropping a built LS/VTEC in. The SOHC turbo will keep up with/ beat most cars on the road. I've got a turbo kit if you are interested. I had between 180 and 200 at the wheels w/o any tuning. It was awesome. It was a total sleeper until the word got out about what I was running. I learned alot from HMT, good luck.

Re: (toolfan020)
I boosted my car with over 225k miles on it. It now has over 235k and it's doing fine. Bone stock Z6 other than ARP headstuds.
I'll eventually build another block to put into the car, but this one is running fine for just now.

no kidding man there are lots of success stories like this. if you do a compression and leakdown test and all is well, theres no reason it shouldnt like a little boosted loving

Psh, compression? Leakdown? What are those?
Initially all I did was change the oil when I put the turbo on because I had to drop the pan to tap it. I suppose I'll probably go and get the tools to do a leakdown and compression test, though.

I wanted 700 for it plus shipping. DSM T-25 turbo that is perfect, not much oil blowby, just normal, no shaft play. I will re-paint the manifold and o2 Housing for you but they are perfect. It's got a custom 2.25" downpipe. Dsm 450cc injectors w/ clips and resistors. 1G side mount intercooler. BMC race adapter plate, custom ic piping that is mostly from a 2g eclipse, 2g bov. It will come with a V-AFC II and if you want to pay shipping I'll send you the tapped oil pan from a Z6. I've got a Johnny Racecar 6" FMIC, and a Greddy RS Style BOV that I ordered a day before my motor blew. So the are brand new and haven't been used. An extra $200 takes those.
