Icon6 d16z6 not starting.. many things tried!

I have a 1995 del sol with the original d16z6 engine in it. It has around 165,000 miles on it.. One day while driving on the highway, it just shut off. I started it back up but sounded rough and rugged and drove for only another 10 minutes or so. My friend and I have tried many different approaches: We switched out the ecu, switched out the entire dizzy, batteries (hey why not?) and other than the obvious, I'm out of options... ANY info will be helpful and will lead me to what I'm assuming is the problem.. Thanks in advance and hopefully there aren't any haters!

Spark?

Fuel pump priming?

CEL codes?

Mechanical timing?

Compression?

thanks for giving me some tips. But I will check these things out.
Also, When we had switched out the dizzy, when we tried starting it, it sounded like it was burping, trying to start but just didn't have the power or something!
