Default D16z6 with d15b (jdm) cams??

Do I need to adjust valve lash? it felt fine when I switched out the cam but figure I'd ask.

How much more HP/Tq am I looking at from just the cam? I know its compared to a stage 1. Just in a stock form.

Thanks,
Shane

IMO both the Z6 and D15B cam are the same and it's just a myth that the D15B cam is more aggressive. I haven't seen any comparisons between the two or any dyno runs. So until I actually see some numbers I will continue to believe this, again it's just my opinion. Bump this back up, Good Luck.

it has been proven, i cant find the thread, but its on http://www.dseries.org look around you might find it. its main change is lift, the duration stays the same but lift increases which gives it a higher ramp, but according to whoever it was that actually measured them there wasnt enough change to even worry about, they could be considered the same. seems like it was less than .010 more lift on the D15b cam, which could easily be a mistake in measurement, so you decide. but to answer the question, yes you should definately adjust the valve lash, or atleast check it. anytime the valvetrain changes, or is removed and reinstalled its a good idea to check it.

damn that sucks.

haha 50 bucks wasted. Then what makes the d15b (jdm) kick out more power out of a 1.5?

I would guess the ecu is responsible for the "umph"

Higher compression. JDM always is higher, since 9.6:1 and higher on d16's scares small children, and the Japanese are harder on their children (jk on that last part).

I'm fairly sure it is a slightly better cam too. A semi-related instance - a chart I saw for headflow (granted it wasn't the best reference) showed the y8 as flowing a few percent less CFM than a z6 head. Both are the same hp rating. While the y8 does have slightly higher compression, I dont think its enough to make up for less flow.

Regardless, I wouldn't waste time with OEm cams. Zex cams don't add much power (w/o boost), and those are much higher lift/duration.

btw - always check valve lash. I know someone who had his car sit for 2 weeks because he didnt' readjust the rockers properly.

yeah, the compression and the tune of the P08 makes the D15b HP rating the same as the z6. japan isnt limited to 93octane either.

if you want a little more power out of your z6 but staying factory parts, you may wana look for ZC VTEC cams. same engine, little more aggressive cam

Good info you guys thanks. I assumed it would have had higher compression. Didn't think the ecu would have tweaked that much but I can see where it can.

I'll get right on to the valve lash right now!! Thanks you guys for the help.

By the way I've never heard of ZC VTEC. only non-vtec. What model card did that come in?

The ZC is like when I just read up on the GX motor yesterday out of Eks.

The intake manifold, Z6 baby!

118 whp D15B7 with just a A6 cam and Z6 intake. That was seven years ago and Z6's with IHE still yet to keep up!
