d16y8 vtec and d16 non-vtec head, IM, and TB: What are the differences?

hey guys,
i plan on buying a d16y8: TB,head,and intake mani from this dood on craigslist. i'm not too motor savvy so i want to know how i can tell 1) if it's a d16y8 head 2) if it's from a auto or manuel trans, and 3) signs to look out for if it's bad/ has problems, thanks in advance.

i plan to do a mini-me swap on my 97 CX hatch with a d16y7 motor. btw
