D16y8 swap question... Yeah, I searched...
But I guess I just suck. So here it is-
I have a 93 civic SI
I'm looking at buying a D16Y8 from a 98
I have an SI harness, P28 ECU and dizzy's available from a 93 SI or 95 LX
Can I just plug this **** in and go? Do I need to wire the knock sensor since I would be running OBD1? Which dizzy should I use? Would I need to chip, reflash the ECU or anything?
Thanks a lot for any information you might have.

use the 93 si dizzy, the harness will plug up to everything but the injectors, you won't need a knock sensor
use the injectors from your stock motor
that is about it man.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
I did read on another thread that the Z6 dizzy won't fit the Y8 head and that the fuel maps were different on the Y8 ECU as opposed to the P28.
Can anyone clarify?

Re: (eg6imola)
Yeah I just did a D16y8 swap on my 92 hatchie and well to answer your question about the dizzy not matching up with the bolt holes on your head then your correct you will need to use the D16y8 dizzy. Next rewire your EG dizzy harness wires to the one pulg dizzy set-up that is found on the 96-00 civic engine harness. I bought a dizzy at auto zone and it had all the colors that matched off my Eg harness so I sodered and shrink wrapped them one by one and worked like a charm. Hope that helps I have the same set-up.

D15B7/D15B8 Distributor is the one to use. However for anyone who wants to know you can swap the CYP/CKP/TDC sensors from ANY OBD1 D or B-series distributor into ANY OBD2 D or B-series distributor case and vice versa to create the distributor you need with the parts you have. Depining unfortunately doesn't work, the pins look the same, but they are slightly different and wont snap into the plug shell when you try to swap them.

Re: (killakalipoph)
the non vtec distributors are supposed to be the ones that fit the Y series heads from everything i've read. Regardless if you have both of the distributors mentioned in the original post one of them will fit.

So far as I know the OBD2 D-series distributors are all the same. You will need to use OBD1 CYP/CKP/TDC sensors though unless you buy a conversion harness.

Yep, I'd keep the OBD2 Shaft and bearing assembly too being as its newer though.
