D16Y8 into D16Z6
Wondering what it takes to drop a Y8 into a Z6 car? I know the manifolds bolt up, and they use the same mounts. Will I need the Y8 ECU? What else? Right now the Y8 is just a long block, no manifolds. The Z6 is still in the car...

Re: D16Y8 into D16Z6 (sockvtec)
Wow thanks, that's really going to help me. I've actually been here longer than yourself, I just don't post on everything. If I had all the Y8 components, then I'd search, all I have is the engine itself, no fuel rail, header, IM, TB, anything. Thanks for nothing...

Why not just keep the Z6?

Re: D16Y8 into D16Z6 (Hybrid93Eg)
Wow I'm tired of people asking that. If the Z6 was worth a ****, I'd keep it. If it were worth the time/effort/money to rebuild it, I'd do that too. If I could find a Z6 in the condition that my new Y8 is in, I'd do it. The Z6 has 160k on it, pistons rings on #2 are fried, causing 135psi in #2 as opposed to the +195psi on all the other cylinders...

The Z6 is a better engine in my opinion then the Y8. But each to his own. They both aren't "worth a ****" if you really want to get down to it. If you're just looking to replace the current worn out engine and don't care about upgrades or anything, the Z6 would also be cheaper as well.

Re: D16Y8 into D16Z6 (Hybrid93Eg)
I agree, I like the Z6 better myself. However, my Z6 has 160k on it, plus the shitty compression. The Y8, which I helped pull (in favor of a B16) has 51795 on it. Came out of a '98 Civic EX auto. I want my car to run, so that is the reason for the swap...

Re: D16Y8 into D16Z6 (jL iLLuZiOnz 9)
Ok so use a head with 160k on it with a block with 52k on it???
Is that really worth the time and work? What possible hp gain would that get me? Is it worth tearing the Y8 apart?

Re: D16Y8 into D16Z6 (eg4matze)
supposedly the Y8 intake manifold is better. not the head.
the Y8 IM is the "Type R of the D-series." i still haven't seen any proof of it being a better OEM mod though.

y has this thread turned into a z6 vs y8 thread? but just for my 2 cents isn't the y8 head stronger? and with some port work it could flow just as well and the y8 has a better tranny so z6

To bolt a Y8 up to an OBD1 car you'll need the Z6 mounts, ECU, and a D15B7 distributor...i'm not sure if you'll have to reroute some **** with the intake manifold, but as far as I know thats all you need.

Re: D16Y8 into D16Z6 (BauleyCivic)
Like what everyone said, use the z6 head, y8 block, and the y8 intake manifold. Everything else should bolt right up. Pretty much all d-series parts are interchangeable. Look on Turbod16.com you'll get some more info there also.

The D15B7 is the just the DX/LX motor right? (Sorry I'm not familiar with anything non-VTEC). I've never heard of needing the D15B7 disty, everybody else says either Z6 or Y8 disty...

yah the b7 dizzy bolts right up,and for the sensors, most go in, except the knock sensor which is not needed.. since the z6 ecu dont search/require it to run right... i think u have to worry about obd2 injectors..just use z6..thats all i can think of
