d16y8 ej8 IAC valve problems
Hey guys so ive had a few problems with my IACV. at first my ECU spat the code and it was idling weird, i bought carb cleaner and cleaned that bad boy out! Put it back in for about 2 weeks it ran like a baby! no problems or nothing. Now its back to acting up again. There is no code being spat no more, but my rpms are bouncing...again. They got from about 1700 to 2000 rpm, when i roll with the car in neutral we are anywhere from 1000 to 1500 rpm. when im parked we are at about 1000 to 1500 for a little, then it drops down to about 500-600. So i did the 3000 rpms until fan turns on test thing and it was seeming like the car wanted to bog out and die, but didnt. what should i do next?? thanks guys

Check the wiring to the IACV, make sure there is no wiring issues.
You can always get another IACV if needed, sometimes cleaning is not enough.
What year is your y8 by the way?

no not for the IACV but i always have had the Po325 for the Knock sensor, i replaced the sensor and 2 weeks later it came on, so i didnt bother with it no more. Ok ill give it a look in the morning...its snowing insanely bad outside. Well my friend has tons of engine parts and he has like 4 IAC valves that i can try, they are used tho. And its a 2000

I'm in the same boat you are. I am going to completely take apart and clean the TB and flush and bleed the coolant. Have you done that yet?

Re: d16y8 ej8 IAC valve problems
Ok so i went and talked to mechanic that is a friend of mine, he told be to buy carb and choke cleaner and spray into the TB with the engine running. He said it supposed to clean the carbon out of there, i did as he said. My rpms were better at idle and are better at driving, they are at about 1000-1500 while driving, and about 1200 while while in neutral. Then adter a bit they drop to about 500-600. So today im going to try that and re clean my IAC valve with some sea foam cleaner. Anyone have any other ideas on what i can do??

Replace the TB gasket and check vacuum lines. There could be a small leak. I cleaned my TB, IACV, EGR (i have an hx) and replaced all gaskets, respectively. Still idles about 1100-1500 while in a neutral roll. Settles to about 750 after stopped for a few seconds.

Re: d16y8 ej8 IAC valve problems
Well i just got a IACV from a buddy of mine, one that worked before he took it off. I cleaned it, and gunna put her on in a few minutes. But he said he had the same problems with his car, so he replaced the TB on both his civics and that fixed it, so i might be thinking that of it isnt the IACV then maybe its the TBS that might be bad. But should it shoot a code if that is the case???

So i put the new(used) IACV in there, and it runs like a baby. Idles back to perfect. I guess the IACV went bad and cleaning wasnt enough. So my friend just gave me that one. Saved a couple hundred But see if you have a buddy that has a civic and try to bolt that one on to tell if it is the IACV.

I'm getting a code for my iacv as well. I've been browsing through the site and there seems to be a lot of iacv issues. Why does it seem such a common problem on Honda Civics? This is my first Honda. I like it a lot but I never had this problem with all the Cavaliers I've owned. (I had other problems instead. lol) ...not complaining, just trying to understand it.

#1 it's not a Cavalier (yuck) and #2 these cars are 20 years old in some cases. Don't you think they are due to start having issues about now? I mean, car parts don't last forever do they?

Re: d16y8 ej8 IAC valve problems
You're right. Nothing lasts forever. It's just not a problem I've ever encountered and when I was looking through the site I noticed a lot of people having the same issue (thankfully). I guess I've just been lucky.
