alright so, i have been gathering tons of info about this swap via ht, and a few other forums. i'm still stuck with this question, has anyone done this swap so far with success? seems like in the tutorial here on ht the owners car ended up going into limp mode on him. anyone here done this with 100% success? also what would be the BARE minimum parts i would need to do this swap successfully, i'm going to pickup the y8 head for $150, good deal imo. i also know i need a new head gasket, is their a certain gasket i should get or would a oem or autozone gasket work fine(assuming boost is comming down the road from now). anything else i should *need*? i know i could run a ecu from the ex's but do i absolutley have too? i know i will prob get some codes.. however if the car runs fine & vtec engages properly i don't care about the codes atm. anyway, thanks for the help.

Mine works great. 99 y7 w/ 00 y8 head, intake and exhust. Used the P2P ecu and ran the needed wires to it( knock, vtec sol, vtec psi). I dyno'd the car before and after to see the difference.... 95hp/ 93 ft lbs before, 111hp/ 100ft lbs after. Car has 99 000kms on it now(59400mi) and I have run the car with the mini-me since last november. It hasnt as much as farted any troubles. I recomend it for a quick 15hp and 4hrs of your time (if your mechanically motivated). Any questions feal free to ask.

The reason for limp mode is because they used a p2p ecu and didn't install a knock sensor into the y7 block. My setup is running fine. I spent too much on it though. I recommend not doing the vtec swap, but instead swap in a z6 or y8 short gear tranny and a y8 intake manifold on and then boost.

well i'm getting the head for $150 & for now this little hp gain is suficent for me. i don't have no where near the money for a turbo right now, & i care more about making my car look nice as it is right now, but you can't have a nice looking slow car.. so i was looking to do this little mod to add a little kick to the civic. so this is my best bet for now. thanks.
