d16y7 catalytic
i bought a 98 civic hatch DX... it came with some exhaust that doesnt even have a cat.. i was wondering, is the cat for the y7 hooked on the exhaust manfold itself, or is it after the downpipe...
the car needs to be smogged and i am tryin to piece together the things i need, but i need to know what to look for 1st... y is it so damn complicated to pass smog in california !

need to pass emmissions ASAP, and since i dont got a buddy who works at an smog place, i gotta do it the hard way
i think im gonna end up needing a stock airbox cause there is a worthless homemade intake on there
and im gonna like need an entire exhaust system, ah im screwed much?

The Y7 has a huge merge collector as the top portion of the header and there's an oxygen sensor in it. Further down the "downpipe" section of the header, also in the front, is another O2 sensor. You should be able to get a stock setup for this engine in the classifieds here on Honda-Tech for nothing more than shipping, as it's not exactly a performance oriented manifold. Aside from that, the exhaust can be whatever as long as it's not too loud. I actually have a complete header setup from a Y7 in my garage right now if you can't find one, but I'll have to pull it off the engine and such if you want me to ship it. Say $20 + shipping and it's yours.

yes the cat is right where you think it is.
With an aftermarket header, it will eliminate the cat converter. I passed tennessee smog with aftermarket header. I welded a cat converter in after the header, and extended the rear o2 sensor harness. No CEL, Passed smog, and passed visual inspection.
Ca is probably very very different though, so best bet would be get the factory header and down pipe
