D16 Valve Cover Bolts?!?

Re: D16 Valve Cover Bolts?!?
Its Fixed! it wasnt broken in there and my uncle *gahh..* tightend down the one that was out first then tightend down the other 4 (didnt re tighten the center one) wich ment it had to of been VERRY loose and probly shook loose an came out.
It was just the head of the bolt that was 12mm. some one could have lost the 10mm and found a 12mm that worked! IN FACKT! i put a 12mm back in it! So please PPL, quit ranting/trolling on about a bolts head being a 10mm and not a 12mm.
I've never seen anything 12mm on a valve cover on any Honda four cylinder in my life.

I dont know if right tighty lefty loosy counts as "a lil know how" but everyone knows you need a torque wrench for that application. Which autozone does your uncle work at? :/ and im sorry there is no if ands or buts about it those are 10mm bolts whether or not you got a 12 to fit it didn't belong there. I'd redo that asap.

go to harbor freight, they have torque wrenches for under $20 bucks. I got one with a coup for $11. theres a reason your supposed to use a torque wrench to put a valve cover on...
Theres also a reason that honda put 10mm bolts in there, and on the same note, theres a reason you were leaking oil...
Do it right the first time, or have to redo it. If when you redo it you do it wrong...chances are, youll be doing it again. Everyone here is just trying to help you, the argument really isnt 10 vs 12...its right versus wrong. If honda and their engineers wanted 12's in there, they wouldve put em in there. No disrespect, but I trust honda over you and your uncle.

Re: D16 Valve Cover Bolts?!?
I know there isn't enough "meat" to drill the M6 threads out to M8, so I hope somebody didn't do that before you bought the car.
Something tells me that you're going to be redoing this again in the near future.
EDIT: By the way, I have a d16z6 head on my car, and all five valve cover bolts have M6-1 threads and require a 10mm socket.

Re: D16 Valve Cover Bolts?!?
i cant believe this made it to page two.
Like everyone has stated the bolts on the vc are supposed to be 10mm heads. Awesome if you want to put a 12mm headed bolt in there. No one is trolling your "board"... but i believe you mean to say your post. I think most people are in disbelieve that you cannot comprehend what other people are trying to tell you.
Step 1 get the right bolts
Step 2 torque the bolts correctly
Step 3 Allow people to give you advice when obviously you dont know what your doing
Merry x mass all and happy holidays

Or if you just have to be cheap and don't want a torque wrench, just use a speed wrench, get the bolt snug, then give it 1/4 extra turn
Plenty tight
My .02
(and yes I do own a torque wrench or two XD; )
*shuts up*
