D15B8 head
I've got a friend with a '92 Civic HB CX with a fried head that he needs to replace. He doesn't have the flow to do a motor swap now, but the car smokes like a freight train... he thinks that it's blown valve seals and that a new head would fix it. Plus he's got some god-awful valve tap going on...
So, two questions... (I'm an EF guy, I don't know about these motors)
1. Are there any upgrade heads that will bolt onto that block other than the CX head (i.e. a '92-95 Si head etc.). He is looking for something that is completely bolt on, and completely straight-forward wiring wise (very little or no changes in wiring... no VTEC). It is already MPFI... if so, anyone got one for sale cheap?
2. Anybody got a CX head they need to get rid of for cheap?
He's not that concerned about making the car ***** fast now, just to get his oil consumption down... and to keep that car rolling under it's own power for as long as he possibly can.
All help is appreciated
thanks

Re: D15B8 head (jchxcrx)
i have the solution for you. Buy my d15b7. It has more power than the cx motor (102 vs 90 something) and it is a direct bolt in to the car. That means, your mounts, uour harness, your ecu.
It is probably the rings that are gone if it is smoking bad, not just valve seals.
I reccomend buying a new(used) motor and dropping it in. It will be about the same price as having someone fix your old motor
hope that helps you and your friend

Re: D15B8 head (averageJoe)
I suggested to him that it was also the rings... But he seemed to want to do a head swap for some reason. Let me know how much you want for the b7 and I'll pass it along. Like I said, he's kinda short on money... Oh, and i thought that the CX was 70hp stock, not 90...
Anyway, thanks
Anybody else got an opinion on this?

Re: D15B8 head (jchxcrx)
i diidnt really know the stock figures for a cx. Too little to matter i guess. All the other sohc heads will bolt on to the cx block. Any head swap (vtec[zc] or not[b7]) will bolt up without any probs. Also any other head with 16 valves instead of 8 will be a benifit to him.
PM me if you still want a price on the longblock

you cant really swap a 16 valve head onto the CX block. Mostly because the pistons dont have the valve reliefs for the two extra valves. (correct me if im wrong)

Re: D15B8 head (liam821)
well... i took a look at it today, and another guy at his shop earlier... it's not just the head... he needs a new motor... so, anybody with a direct bolt in replacement for this d15b8 let me know... d15b7/stock motor... whatever, just something that isn't gonna need any kind of wiring or mount conversion.
thanks
thanks
