D15b7 crankshaft seal
Doing timing belt change right now and decided the put a new crankshaft seal in while I'm there. Pulled the old one out fine but the new I pressed almost all the way flush with my fingers...i m reading everywhere that u should have to press it in with a socket or pipe. Its a fel pro seal and the part numbers right anyone ever have this happen? Is it gonna leak like a pig?

Re: D15b7 crankshaft seal
It's the front main not the rear if it's timing belt side and there is no metal ring on the front main.
You have a spring on the inside of it. But that spring never ever contacts any metal part.
What I would do is put a very slight amount of hondabond/flange sealant on the outside edge of the seal before you push it in. This will hold it in place and prevent leakage around the outside seal.
Your new one sounds loose enough to end up spinning in the housing which will let it leak.
Also if you have a groove in the crank shaft, try and make sure the inside diameter of the seal doesn't end up landing in the groove. You do this by either pushing the seal in a touch further then flush or let it stick out just a smidgen from flush. That tip came from my local Honda Tech 25 years experience and factory trained.

Re: D15b7 crankshaft seal
Allso there are grooves on the inner surface of the seal and there are usually 2 types on d series. There are clockwise and the counter clockwizse. Usually the other sealant modell exist bacause some other engine uses the exact same size crank/cam seal and they are selling you that one because it fits yours too. The thing is that the groove is designed according to the direction the engine rotates. and if it is grooved in the wrong direction it wont seal properly.
