Thats quite the first post. Welcome to h-t.

So, you want to go turbo? I don't blame you, that's a terrible engine to daily drive as it is. No power, no torque, and lonnnng gears.

These links will help you...

http://www.hondacivicforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=42034
https://honda-tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1263795

I got all three from the FAQs thread that is stickied at the top of the forum. You should do some exploring in there, too.

Yeah, a D15B7 does not have much potential, I know because I have one.
I would go with AT LEAST a non v-tec B18, like a B18B1.

go to the FORCED INDUCTION forum there. they will help you out tremendously.
and i would just go for a b18c5 swap. or even a b16 swap instead of a turbo d15. then later on, turbo the b18/b16

well the d15 has slightly more power than the d16s at higher rpms. but its not much. they also have a more aggressive cam than the d16 but its VERY VERY hard to notice as it doesnt make much difference.
and if your friend has a y8 then he can just put a turbo on it cuz of its low compression. but he will only have 225whp MAX.
anymore and his rods wont take all that extra hp. then they will snap

They aren't that bad to turbo, no. Pretty much any engine is fun to drive once it's turbocharged. You never mentioned which D16 your friend has...but considering you also spoke of a mini-me swap, I'm going to assume its a D16Y7...? Well a Y7 that has a VTEC head will perform like a Y8. A 1.6L VTEC d-series will perform better than a 1.5L non-VTEC d-series, assuming everything else is equal/comparable.

Which D16 and D15 are you comparing? The only D15 with aggressive camshafts is the JDM D15B, not the USDM D15B7 that the OP is talking about.

YES. When performing any significant engine work (like adding turbo, or building the internals of an engine) it is VERY important to tune the ECU properly.
