Default CV BOOT and Joint Ripped!!! anyone in WA?

Hi, i just found out that my cv boot is ripped and i've been driving on it for like over a month. We just had a snow storm and the roads were sanded down, and lots of that sand is not in my greasy area. Do you think my car is savable? I read online that sometimes u have to replace the whole left axle? I dont know much about cars, but that sounds freakin expensive.

I'm taking it to the Honda dealer. Anybody know how much it is just for cv boot (best case)

vs. replacing the "joint" whatever this is, (is this even possible)

vs. whole axle

TIA

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe an axle is around $150, can't be more than $200 from your local Autozone or Checkers.

edit: NM. I'm seeing $60, and no more than $100.

You may be screwed if you can't buy your own stuff, as for the price. I'm unsure of honda labor either; I do all my own work.

As for your question stated above, call Honda and tell them you need a tow. My buddy had to get his new jetta towed to VW one day (wouldn't start), but they covered the cost because his was covered under warranty. Towing shouldn't be that much though.

It'd be better to replace the entire axle. You can get one from Autozone for around $60 with lifetime warranty. If it breaks, you can just go and get another one.

Also, go out and buy some tools from Sears or something and learn how to change the axle. That way you can save yourself some money and have some tools for the future. Seriously tho, working on a car isn't that hard; you get better the more you work on them. I've been doing it since I was 17 years old, and that can even be considered a late start. Just learn from trial and error and when you break ****, just take it as a learning experience. Good luck.

A dealer will charge by the hour, which might be a butt-load. My axels would have come out in ~20 minutes per side if everything would have went smoothly. Instead, we spent the greater part of a day changing them due to ball joints not coming apart / having to take apart the suspension / getting the cogs to line up, etc.

Join the club, Its not very costly to just go on and replace the axles. You need to become friends with someone who knows how to do them or find out how to do it yours self(there is a faq on here if you search). Honda dealership would be the last place Id go if I couldent do it myself just because its a simple job you cant screw up so any mechanic should be able to do it and they charge out the ***.

The way I see it, doing something yourself is an awesome excuse to go out and buy tools. Honestly, price of axle and tools together would still probably be cheaper than parts/labor from Honda.

Been working on cars since I was 15, and it may be one of the most important things I have ever done for myself.

I can reboot your axle. I'm in WA. I can get a boot kit for 10 bucks, throw in new grease, and you're good to go. BTW< I work at Honda

as long as it's not making noise, your can save it...for MUCH cheaper

Honda charges I think 1.5 or 2 hours a side plus parts...comes out to about 150 per axle at least, maybe more

Just go to a local mechanic, mine replace both axles, i think it cost around 350 for both installed, in canadain funds so lets go about 300 for the pair or about 150 each axle. But as the other guy said if they're not clickin they should be alright with just a new boot as far as i've been told.

Since someone offered to help you out with it then I would go buy the axles at autozone for ~60$ and do it yourself. There is no replacement for hands on knowledge when dealing with cars. Good luck!!
