cv joint boot
When i was driving my outer passanger CV joint boot got torn and oil is all over my rim. It is starting to squeak a little bit and I heard that I should just replace the whole axle instead of just the boot. Is that correct? Can I just buy a axle from autozone with life time warrenty??

yes, its easier to replace the whole axle. go to autozone and get some... they offer warranty plus $ for your core exchange i believe.
i'll try to find the diy link for you.

it's good upkeep if you replace both since you are already down there but their is not problem with just doing one side.
i would just replace one side and do the other when its torn.

yes you can just replace the boot but it will probably be more hassle than replacing the whole axle.
there was a guy that did that and it ended up being a long process.

You said it was squeeking and it seems like its been a while so all sorts of road dirt have probably gotten ground into the joint. It would be best to replace it.

if you were to go the boot route, you would have to clean all the dirt off real well.
is the noise present all times or when you use your brakes? brakes sounds like screeching sorta like pads rubbing against the rotor versus axle has this click sound to it.

Re: (harley06)
I've replaced at least 6 axles in my car in the past 4 years, and I have a bad axle again. It wont hurt to ride on it if it's the cv joint that messed up or torn. I'd say for the majority of the time I've been driving my hatch at least 1 of the axles has been fubar'd.
I'd just replace the whole axle with a lifetime warrenty axle from napa or autozone. It should only take like 45 minutes to change once you get the procedure down.

Re: (Hatchy-Ownzjo0)
So as long as we're on this, how do you guys go about getting the Lower ball join back together? I had to take a chissel and hammer some cuts around the cylindrical part that fits into the knuckle to keep it from turning.
