Default Cutting Stock Springs To Lower Civic... Good or Bad?

I have a guy that will lower my 1996 2 Door Civic for $100 flat. He has a 1995 Acura Integra that he simply cut the stock springs on. It looked pretty clean to me, he had 18's on his Integra. Anyways I told him I dont want it slammed like his. I have a guy that will give me a GREAT deal on 17" wheels and tires but I didnt want to get them because I couldnt afford a drop and with 17's and no drop it would look gay. He told me if you just cut one coil off it would lower it 1" to 1.5" but he recommended I that I have two coils cut off all the way around since I was going to put 17's on it. Here is my deal. I race on these back roads around my where I live, and alot of them have dips especially at high speeds. Currently I dont scrape ANYWHERE. Like I said I dont want this thing sitting as low as possible, just low enough so the 17's dont look real goofy on my car. I have NEVER lowerd a car or truck in my life. Is there any reason why you shouldnt cut the springs? Will it make my tires wear uneven? How many coils could safely be cut to where it doesnt affect my tire wear alot? A LITTLE uneven tire wear wont bother me, but I dont want it majorly off. THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS!!!

That's a bad idea. Beside you can get good springs on honda-tech for less than $100.

a really bad idea. It ride good for a week or so, then it will be horrible. the stock springs were engineered to be use at that length

We used to do this in high school auto shop(i am in college now. ) You just take a torch, and heat the spring. And da nah, like magic instant $h*tty ride.

just buy used springs and do it right

secondly 'racing' at high speeds on a road with dips isn't racing it's called being a dumbass

get some good springs, and save yourself from getting the 17's. if your road has dips, then the roads are prob in crappy condition, u can bend a rim or bust tire with the quickness. get some 16's, that way u have some sidewall

i say cut the springs about 5-6 coils so you can have the uber slammed look.

Cut springs.

Cut the Springs and use the extra coils to stab yourself in the eye.

Cut Stock Spring ~~~~

Its going to suck when u drive it... I know this kid that had cut springs ... hits a dip and he scraped his oil pan... this was on the highway... Plus people are just going to laugh at you... Aftermarket lowering springs arent that expensive at all.

If you cut your springs your suspension will sweak. Its a REALLY bad idea to cut them. A good set of springs will do the job to lower it but if you keep your stock shocks the ride will still suck. Cutting your stock springs will also **** up your stock shocks. What you should do....... Buy tein springs and koni shocks.

Hey i love to cut my springs to lower my car since whenever i drive my car it bounces up and down like i have hydro's on my car. You get to kill two birds with one stone now.

On a serious note for $50 bucks you can pick up a set of used lowering springs they might not be the best of brands. But anything is better then cut springs i rather replace cut springs with broom sticks and zip ties.

Ebay. coilovers are like 80 buxs shipped there. And there are plenty of places on the net as well as HT that can teach you how to install them.
