Default Heater/cooling system problems

itll warm up fine at idle sitting in my garage but when i drive... right back down to cold.. it wasnt the thermostat bc i replaced it... (that was when i had my dseries stil) and after the swap it still does the same thing (JDM LS Motor) im stumped.. i think it has something to do with my heater core bc my heat doesnt work for **** it always blows cold or luke warm air.... i need heat.. winters a commin

Problems: engine wont stay at a high enough temperature and heat doesnt blow hot..

Check Thermostat

Can do this by taking it out and putting it in a bowl of steaming hot water to see if it expands or contracts

Make sure you have fresh properly mixed Coolant. 50% Water and 50%
Antifreeze

Make sure fins on Radiator are ok. If there all fins are broken then the rad may need to be replaced.

Otherwise take it to a shop...........

check. check. chekc... its not any of those problems.. 1. the radiator is in brand new condion.. 2. it happend when i had my Dseries before and after a new thermostat.

3. mix is fine.. its been fine for both the engines and it still persists...

right now im thinking its the heater core... because if i turn my climate control on cold and put it on full blast the air blows really hard .. but when i switch it over to hot the air comes out at like half the speed it did when its at cold... so im thinking its clogged or somethigns goin on

I kind of have the same problem, I took my car to a honda shop last night to get this checked out. I had to have the thermostat replaced (the guy told me that the ones from AZ and AAP suck.. oh well) but it might be the water pump by the firewall..

hope that helps a bit..

Probably the Heater Core then

If it is clogged then you won't get heat.

You don't smell Antifreeze coming through your vents that would indicate a leak in the core?

I don't know how difficult it is to change a heater core in a Honda as I have owned 3 hondas and never had that problem.

Went through 2 heater cores in my 87 Pontiac 6000.

If you have checked everything else then that is probably where I would focus at this point.

Well the Heater core is part of your Coolant Cirulation system.

So if it is clogged then coolant is not making a full trip through the entire system and therefore the thermostat may be incorrectly reading the coolant temperture.

I don't know I'm not a mechanic lol

Thats pretty cold right there, you might need to go richer on anti-freeze, like 60-40 or whatever the bottle recommends for super cold places. You checked for proper fan function and fan switch, because if the switch is stuck on the on position, your engine will get too cold, or too cold for fuel efficiency and emissions. And also how about the viscosity on the engine oil?

its got nothing to do with anything on the engine.. bc ive had 2 engines and its done the same exact thing for both.. im putting a 50-50 mix of antifreeze/water and im running 5w30 Synthetic blend.

does the engine stay hot and no heat comes out? from what i read, sounds like you turn the heat on, the engine cools rapidly, doesn't sound right or possible. if no hot air comes out, but the engine doesn't overheat, i'd say the ventilation system is clogged.

has the car sat still for a long time? if so, a mouse or other small animal may have stuffed the vents with stuff, building a nest-like thing. happens alot around here, not sure bout where you are

so it heats up fine at an idle but gets cool when youre driving? what thermostat do you have in there? you might change it to a high temp one so that it doesnt open up till a higher temp. Aslo is it a stock radiator?
