I need technical info on the two.
I'm going to get a CTR fr lip for my 97 Civic EX and I need to know whether the auhentic JDM piece will fit my american model EX.
I'm asking because I've heard the 99-00 JapanDM CTR lip for the 99-00 won't fit the US spec EX fr. bumper! For correct fitment for this JapanDM lip, you have to also get the whole Japan front bumper, too.
Can anybody tell me if this is true?
And if it is true, is that a mounting problem I'll have w/ my US spec 97 EX?

let's get the facts straight.

if you get a 99-00jdm ctr lip... it WILL fit a 99-00usdm front bumper. ex, si, dx cx. it doesn't matter. all the 99-00 bumpers are the same. the only difference is in the upper grills which varies by trim.

similarly, the way jdm ctr lips mount onto 96-98 bumpers are the same as long as you stay within the same years. however with your 97 bumper, you have two popular oem honda choices: one being a ctr lip, the other an Sir lip.

Yeah, I know about the SiR and Type R, but I've heard the Japan and US specs for the front bumper differed in the 99-00 civic. You know that foam piece in front of your civic, that's for the 5 mph bumper requirement that in Japan they do not have! That's the reason for the difference in bumper size and CTR lip size. That's the best explanation I've heard and until anyone can honestly say they've installed a 99-00 JapanDM CTR Lip on their 99-00 US spec civic w/ no problems, my question still stands. Thanks though

there are a ton of people on this site with ctr lips on their usdm front bumpers. 5mile/hour styrofoam does not affect the bumper size. they are the same size.. hence same fitting lips. do a search for ctr lips. watch out for fakes b/c some won't fit like oem will.

the JDM and USDM bumpers are the same. the only difference is the JDM dont have the styrofoam, but they arent any smaller because of it. the US 99-00 civic Si lip is the same exact lip sold in japan as the 99-00 CTR lip, so there is no difference. you wont have any problems putting a 97 CTR lip on your 97 EX, unless youre a dunce.

Alright, I've already done the "search" and I haven't come across one person that actually said the JDM piece fits their US spec civic. They all are ordering them but I haven't come across anybody actually saying how the installation went on their civic. I'm inferring all went well, because nobody is complaining in the threads, but friends say to me that they know people that have ordered the 99-00 JDM CTR lip for their 99-00 US spec EX and fitment definately was a problem. So, hence my() in the "brief description", heresay is what's holding my research up!

Yeah, I've heard too many stories of botched orders with warped products and misfittments that cost people like hundreds, so I'd rather spend the time then waste my money!

I painted my H-emblem too, but I painted it the same dark bronze color w/a clearcoat Lexus uses on their emblems. Both emblem, fr. and back!

can you please tell us who exactly had the problem and where he bought the lip from and perhaps his/her experience with body panel installations?? are you going to believe one person with a problem or the 1000+ people here on HT that have this setup? take our word for it. i have a ctr on my usdm dx front bumper. you can mount two screws at each end and there are 6 more mounting points on the bottom of the ctr lip if you so choose to do so.

Thanks bro. Didn't mean to bother you, dude.Why didn't you say you've done it. There is a huge difference between actually doing something and being a poser. I'm tired of reading **** on some threads where they're just repeating false info. That leads a lot of people into dead ends and wastes time. I'm all about ..."everybody's learning!" on HT.

JDM and USDM bumpers are EXACTLY the same in 96-00. (with the corresponding years). Bumper Supports aren't the same.

So YES, 96-98 JDM CTR front lip will fit a USDM civic ANYTHING front bumper. YES, a 99-00 JDM CTR front lip will fit a USDM civic ANYTHING front bumper. (But they are the same as the USDM SI one. - Well it's just a debate, no one has had solid proof yet.) End of Story. You're done. Don't believe that guy, believe us.
