Default ctr cams in ls/vtec, possible wrong valve adjustment?

hey guys i recently (well my bro and i) swapped in a ls/vtec in my 97 cx hatch, im using the stock harness (vtec will be wired seperately) i converted the obd1 injectors, alt, dizzy to obd2, i have a obd2 to obd1 jumper with a chipped p28, before we installed the motor we installed ctr cams, we did a valve adj. 0008 exhaust and 0007 intake, we started the car, it started fine, idles ok, but when trying to press the gas the motor bogs out, when we slowly open the throttle body it revs but never passes like 4 or 5k,

couple things that im thinking it could be....there is no alternator belt right now because im trying to look for the pin that holds the crank pulley to the block but it should still run right? with a good battery? and the vtec pressure switch, vtec solenoid and knock sensor arent hooked up yet...is this the cause?...please help im trying to get my car finaly up and running...any info will greatly be appreciated

sounds like timing, might be off a tooth on one of the cam gears or main shaft. valve lash is ok. any cel

you wont know untill you hit vtec and the sound it will make if the valves hit the pistons is very obvious.
we had a guy bring his car in to be tuned with a ls/vtec and skunk2 stage 3 cams...lol....he didnt bother to mention that untill we hit vtec on the dyno...the noise was not good....oddly enough the motor still ran fine...after that noise we shut it down and asked him what cams it had...when he said skunk2 stage 3 we told him take your car home and dont hit vtec.

you ls/vtec guys should at least swap out to some p30 pistons while you have the motor apart.

well heres an update in what went wrong....i had the 2 sensors on the tb mixed up, and i was bummed out when everything was plugged up and it wouldnt pass 4 k...well heres why....i completely forgot the ecu has a 2 step..lol

car runs pretty good now, might adjust the valves tomorrow, i did it when the motor was warm but not hot,..so it has some ticking noise,,...heres a picture of the end result, incase anyone gives a dooky
