Could a CV Joint be disassembled?
I have a 92 Civic Hatchback here in Manila, and I'm doing almost all repair works myself (cuts the cost of labor, doesn't it?). My outer CV Joint boot cover has been torn, and has started to make knocking sounds when turning. I saw the thread here for disassembling the whole joint and shaft altogether. I'm just wondering if there is a way to disassemble the CV joint itself. I called up a parts store, and they have the JDM of the joint itself but I need to separate the joint. Is there a way to split/disassemble the CV joint? Hope you guys can help me out here. Thanks and more power to you guys!

if you put the shaft in a vice you can sometimes hit it off with some persuasion and a very large hammer. here in the states ( i am assuming you arent from the states, sorry if wrong) axles are 50 dollars. i just replace the whole assembly.

Re: Could a CV Joint be disassembled? (boostedcivicsir)
Thanks, man. I'm here in the Philippines, and the price for a new axle ranges from P5,000 to 7,000 ($90 to $125). A friend of mine told me about the hitting-the-joint thing also. I sure could use a how-to thread of that, with pics. Hope any of you guys could share your 10cents on my problem. Thanks, guys!

i just recently replaced my cv boot...wish i did a how to but i forgot my camera when you do take the joint off, use a dead blow hammer. using a regular one can possibly crack a bearing. the rebuild kit should come with directions but here you go

but if your CV is making a nocking noise I think at that point you ruined it and It shouldnt be repaired.. you prob damaged the landings and guides for the bearings so even putting in a new one is just going to damage it in the end.

you're in manila and paying almost as much as i'm paying for the same part..
at least Jollibee's delivers
To answer the question, if it's popping like that, it's already bad and you're already going to need a new one.
Try a junkyard.
