Default outboard cv joint

Can anyone confirm please...
I needs to change an outboard CV joint on 1994 VTI. All manuals I have read suggest that the outer joint does not separate from driveshaft, only the inner one.
Is the joint and driveshaft one part then?
My local motor factor says all CV joints will come off driveshaft, but I'm unsure....Anybody?

Cheers

Default Re: outboard cv joint (vistacat)

The outer joint can be popped off the shaft usually;
However the cost of replacement reman axles is about the same as a new outer joint.
To get the outer joint off, clamp the axle shaft in a sturdy vise, hold the outer joint straight inline with the axle, swing a big 2 pound hammer to strike the joint on the inside face/edge. Ya can't swing like a girl, hit that sucker hard !!
If you miss you smack your other hand with the hammer; old farts like me have old axle nuts welded to nuts that fit the OTC slide hammer shaft. LOL
Slide hammer pops off the outer joint every time without fail.
