cooling fan not turning on
First time posting 97 Honda civic ex
I have an issue with my cooling fan not turning on when its suppose to. It's driving me nuts. So far I have changed my coolant temperature sensor thinking that was it but no luck. Then I checked out my relays and that was fine. At one point I would just wiggle the cooling fan relay and it would work. Now it doesn't turn on at all even after changing the fuse box under the hood thinking the legs that hold the relays were broken or something. The fan itself turns on if I give it power. No cel. Even changed the ecu since I had a spare but still no luck. Anyone have an idea of what could cause this?

Re: cooling fan not turning on
If you short the two terminals of the unplugged 2P fan switch connector on the thermostat housing, does the fan run when the key is turn to ON(II)?

Re: cooling fan not turning on
Well what I have tried already is switching the cooling fan relay with the one right next to it that looks the same.(clutch I believe it's for). I let the car warm up and once I saw that the temperature was going past the halfway mark and the fan would still not turn on I knew it wasn't the relay. But I haven't tried exactly how you're saying. It's been raining over here so I'll have to try it whenever the rain lets up. As of right now I have my corner lights rigged to my fan since it is my daily driver I can't have it overheating on me. The only reason I need the fan to work properly is because I recently installed a remote start on it and I need it to warm up in the mornings when remote started. The car takes longer to warm up with the fan rigged to be on.

My A/C works its just I need to vacuum the system for it to cool better.. I know for a fact that there's air in it but that's another problem I'll get to in the summer. My A/C compressor clutch and condenser fan kicks on whenever I turn my A/C on. Even after switching the cooling fan relay with the condenser fan. As far a multi meter I'll have to get one.

Re: how to start a new thread?!
You should try what RonJ posted and switch the two relays in the diagram, not the one right next to it. And report back if your fan kicks on.
The AC relay and the Fan relay are the same, can't be sure any of the other relays are the same.
When you report back RonJ will provide you with the next step in the troubleshooting diagnosis. Everything must be done one step at a time.
