Post Coolant: Regular or Honda/Nissan for 95 Civic?

I've got a coolant leak on my fast idle valve on my 95 Civic. I've had to add coolant before because of this, and I've just used Prestone brand antifreeze. But today, when I went to go buy some at Walmart, I saw there was Prestone Nissan/Honda coolant. Do I need to use this? I was pretty sure regular coolant was fine, but I'd like some input on this issue.
Thanks.

Nissan is starting to use a coolant with similar color to Honda blue coolant. But I have not confirm with testing

Honda, Nissan, and I actually think Volkswagen as well.

There are two general types of coolant: the old silicate based conventional green (which is becoming hard to find in stores), and the newer organic acid (HOAT) based coolants specified for newer cars and "all makes all models". (Then there's also Dexcool... but that should only be used in GM cars). You can use either silcate or HOAT in a 1995 Civic but do not mix them. Flush out the Prestone if you're going to run "Asian", "Honda", "All Makes All Models" etc. Those are all HOAT not silicate.

Not VW/Audi. They require different coolant than the typical one found everywhere. When I did the water pump replacement, I picked up some Pentosin 12++ coolant from the nearby Advance Auto Parts.

If I may.....

What happens if you mix the two and run it for any serious length of time?

What bad things happen when you mix the two coolant types together?

Nevermind, it appears nothing drastic happens overall except reducing the length of life the coolant is good for:

How antifreeze and coolants have evolved
Inorganic Acid Technology (IAT) is the chemical foundation for the original green or blue antifreeze. IAT contains either ethylene glycol or propylene glycol and is mainly built up with silicate or phosphate additives to increase its compatibility with metal cooling system components. The generally recommended replacement interval is every year.

What do IAT and OAT mean?
As we have seen, Inorganic acid technology (IAT) is the chemical composition for the traditional green, yellow or blue antifreeze.Organic acid technology (OAT) on the other hand is a Long Life Coolant usually made of ethylene glycol and is commonly used in Europe. It also has a vastly superior recommended replacement is 5 years or 240,000km. Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT) is a combination of IAT and OAT with nitrites and actually existed prior to the development of OAT technology. The generally recommended replacement interval is 3 years or 240,000km.

Can you mix antifreeze?
It is best to use the same type of coolant originally used in your vehicle, or the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations. According to experts within the industry, if you don’t know what coolant is in the vehicle and you add another brand, nothing bad will occur. But if the mixture of the technologies is close to 50%, the effectiveness of each coolant’s inhibitor package is affected. In general, if mixing coolants, the recommended coolant change period will fall to that of the shorter life coolant.
The above pulled from here.
