Default Complete engine rebuild...

I have a d16z6 from my old 93 ex.......the timing belt snapped on the highway.......scrapped the car but kept the engine and trans...........I was thinking about rebuilding the engine in the next couple of months(and dropping it in my hatch), but have never rebuilt an engine.......does anyone have any advice to offer on where i should start?....I was going to send the head to napa to be checked over and possibly milled a bit......I will be going n/a.......what parts should i keep? replace?.....should i invest in higher comp pistons?......sorry, but i am a noob when it comes to all the internal stuff.......any advice or links are appreciated......thanks

read before you touch the motor. buy a helms book and read it a few times. i think is a good start for you.

i suggest not expecting to go fast on a sohc all motor setup. all motor is an expensive route. youre not going to be fast all motor sohc without a crap load of money. either go with a swap if you want to go all motor. or boost the D.

like some of the others said, read the manual, then deffinatly have the head checked, u could have messed it beyond repair since u were on the highway, same thing with the block, i can almost garrentee that at least 1 piston is broken, and atleast 1 rod is bent, the crank might also be damaged. if you are going NA, i would get high compression pistons forged rods, a new crank dependong on the condition, as well as arp head studs

The 3 'dead' motors I have for parts now all threw a rod. None of the mating surfaces of the heads or blocks were warped in any way, just the typical bent valves and piston denting from contact.

Have them all checked, get new valves, new pistons, and possibly new rods. I have a few extra (lol) if you want to buy just one, but for 7500+ rpm, you may want to get Tuner Toyz forged rods.

Best advice I can give - make sure ALL oil passages are clean (spotless!) before assembly, don't let the bores rust after the hone/bore job, and get a lint-free rag used for car detailing or windows to wipe off ANY dust/dirt/etc off bearings and bearing surfaces right before you install them.
