clutch safety disable on a 95 civic
Hey,
I am putting a remote start on a 95 civic DX with a manual but don't know exactly how to disable the clutch (the fact that it has to be pushed in before the car will start)
I know where the switch is but don't how to bypass it
All help is appreciated

Might as well bump for this guy cause I am debating whether or not to remote start on my car, so maybe this thread will help to decide.

Theres a relay on the drivers side kick panel area, you want to splice into it AFTER the relay. Your good to go.
I do hope you have a remote start inteded for a manual trans car.

They make remote starts specificly for manual trans cars, there just a little more of a pain to use, mine for example requires you to set the parking brake tap the brake pedal twice and then exit the car, but if you open any door or the ******* trunk it wont start. So you have to remote start it get your **** then get out.
I personally would have put in one intended for a auto-trans, with some custom safety switch's.

Re: clutch safety disable on a 95 civic (nocturnaldragon)
i do have one for a manual but what do you mean "splice into it after the relay"?
my remote doesn't have any output for the clutch so i just want to disable the sensor so it thinks the clutch is always pushed in

i have remote start in mine and i dont have to do all that brake tapping bs. the only thing mine does is shut off when i tap the brack when it is on. that way no one can steal it if i start it. i just hope you remember to put it in neutral. i jumped a curb a taco bell the first week i had mine because i wasnt used to doing that

the relay has a black wire with a red stripe thats the one you want to tap into for the starter. You may want to double check that tho, Im 98% certain on this.

i had mine done recently. my friend owns a shop and did it for me. if you can find someone to install it, you don't have to buy a unit specifically made for manual. just remember to leave it in neutral.

Re: clutch safety disable on a 95 civic (d16y8hatch)
I just finished installing mine this past weekend. Here's what I did....
1. Clutch Bypass - My starter has an output which goes to ground 4 seconds before start and remains grounded during remote start operation. I took this wire and spliced it into the Blue/Black at the starter cut relay which is located in the driver's kick panel area. If your starter doesn't have an output like this, I would suggest putting in a switch that is grounded on one side and goes to the Blue/Black on the other side. This will provide some level of safety.
2. MTX Safety - Most (all?) starters have a wire which must be grounded before it will allow the RS to operate. I tied this wire into my e-brake switch, requiring my ebrake to be engaged. Even if I happen to leave it in gear, my e-brake will some what catch the car.
The most important thing is to remember to leave your car in neutral. You may want to install a switch inline with the wire tied into the e-brake, so incase you loan the car to anyone you can disable the starter.

Re: clutch safety disable on a 95 civic (wheelmanbg)
Ok I have one more question
My remote started has a wire that hooks up to the oil light but the cluster has a zillion wires going in it.
Anyone know which one is for the oil light?
Thanks everyone for the posts. You've been very helpful.
Dan

What brand of starter do you have that requires to be hooked up to the oil light? You will need to use the tach wire and diesel engines will require to be hooked into the wait to start light.

Re: clutch safety disable on a 95 civic (mrchaos)
i've never heard of one looking for the oil light either. I put a switch on my clutch bypass so if i flip the switch, the car won't remote start (if I lend my car to someone). I also took the hood pin switch and wired my e-brake to that. Now if the ebrake isn't up (or if the hood is open), it won't remote start, and if I forget to pull up the ebrake my alarm will warn me that zone 4 (show the hood popped on my 2 way) is not armed.

Well i just dispabled my clutch safety switch last night. The clutch safety switch is located untop of your clutch assembly under your dash. It will be a switch ( black button) that will have 2 wires connected to it. You will be able to see it better if you push the clutch down while you are down there. If you cut the wires and splice them together you will have bypassed the swtich and you will be able to start your car without pressing the clutch in. Its a bitch getting to the wires and working under your dash if you are a big guy like me, so have someone kinda of small to do it. I enlisted my gf and she did it in like 3 mins.

My remote is mady by Alpha Guard.
I think it wants the oil light so it can tell if the car is running.

Dude, you don't sound like you know what your doing... I wouldn't try and install this if I were you. What brand is this? A remote start would have no need for an "oil light"... the only thing I can think of is this is a glow plug wire.

Re: clutch safety disable on a 95 civic (JDM_Ej)
ok
i have no idea why it wants the oil light but it does.
There is a yellow wire coming out of the RS unit itself which says "oil light/tension coil"
I have no idea what the tension coil is but it has a little diagram that shows you should connect to the wire between the oil indicator light and the engine.
