Clutch Pedal stays on the floor...
'95 Civic DX.
The clutch stays on the floor and has to be pulled up and down by hand to pump fluid. There is no sign of fluid leaking anywhere by the slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder, although the reservoir was dry when I got the car. I filled it up and bled the reservoir till it was dry twice and still no change in the pedal. The car will start in first gear and drive fine.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

First, don't bleed until the resivor is dry, you'll never get all the air out that way. Does it stay down all the time? or only when you're bleeding the system? cause its normal for the over-center spring to hold the pedal down when bleeding.

Re: Clutch Pedal stays on the floor... (stock_honda_coupe)
same thing happened to me and i bled the system and kept an eye on my clutch reservoir. it would go low after 2 days of not driving, so obviously i had a leak. i looked at my clutch slave cylinder and it was wet with brake fluid. went down to autozone and picked me up a slave cylinder for about 12-15 bucks, installed it and no problems. i ordered me a clutch master cylinder too, but will install that sometime here in a few weeks, because since i assume the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder work together, if one goes out, it shouldnt be to long before the other goes, hence the reason why i have a clutch master cylinder ready to be installed.

It stays on the floor all the time. I stopped draining all the fluid after I figured out how many pumps it took to dry it out.
I will pull both cylinders to inspect them further tomorrow.

Check the firewall above the clutch pedal on the inside of the car. Fluid has a tendency to run down from there as well.
If you're going to take both of them off anyhow, buy new ones. It's a maintenance thing.

It can leak there for a long time and you'll never know it until you look. Slave cylinders can hide their leaks for a long time too.

Properly bleed the fluid through the master to the slave cylinder... making sure you do not run the reservoir out of fluid at any time or you have to start over.
