The only things I would worry about are the electrical connectors and grounds.

Just use Simple Green with a 75/25 water mix. Cover up your dizzy, air filter and battery and spray generously. Hose off with power washer and repeat. After spraying wipe off the excess water. If your bay is really dirty then you may need to scrub off the left over gunk. I followed this and achieved excellent results.

there's this stuff you can get at autozone (that's the only place i've ever seen it) called black magic engine degreaser and shine. Just like it says..it shines and degreases. I used it on a lot of my cars.

My 99 integra. 149k miles. btw

My 99 hatchback CTRish replica. I miss this car SO MUCH!!!!!

My S13. This is before i "refreshified" the motor lol. It looked a lot better after i pulled the motor and consequently cleaned the hell out if it.

and my S2000. but to be fair, this car only has 25k and it barely ever sees even a rainy day.

I wouldnt spray these directly with the clean, but water will not hurt them, especially the grounds. Just dont spray the air filter or dizzy directly and you will be fine.

black paint, it'll never look dirty again! lol, j/k

the gunk stuff ain't too shabby. Never used the black magic, but seeing those pics I wouldn't mind trying it.

I would just yank out the battery all together prior to cleaning, cover the dizzy, and the air filter.

simple green
brake cleaner
engine degreaser

all work great. cover your dizzy, remove your battery, cover your fuse box, and i think your suppose to cover your alternator too but im not sure.

be sure to let the engine warm up for awhile. that way when you spray on the degreaser n helps to melt everything away.

you can use a power washer at a carwash or something. that works good if you havent cleaned it in a while. Otherwise, a hose will work fine too. Use it on everything. The motor, the actual engine bay, and the downside of the hood. the black magic stuff I use requires NO wrapping of electrical parts. It's di-electric. Just dont concentrate the spray around your alternator and stuff. Also, it really doesn't smell. The gunk stuff smells like solvent REALLY bad. It gives me a headache. Always be sure you cover your air filter if you have a short ram...or if it's exposed. Use a plastic bag. The battery doesnt need to be covered or removed. The battery probably wouldnt need to be covered or removed even if you didnt have Di-electric spray.

Try not to clean your car on your driveway. It stains and deteriorates asphalt/blacktop. That's why I like doing it at carwashes.

Use a little bit of spray on armor all or similar protectant to make it extra shiny.

I wouldnt use carb cleaner or brake cleaner. it can deteriorate rubber seals and silicone seals. it also REMOVES PAINT. lol...nasty stuff.

I use simple green its safe on plastics and does not leave residue on motor like some degreasers do.
