Icon6 CKP Sensor Issue.

I have a D16Y7, My car recently broke down. Before it broke down the engine would start to cut out, and lose power. It became more and more frequent until it finally broke down. I used to be able to drive it for a 1/4 mile or so before it would act up and break down again but now it is broke down and I can't get spark. When it would break down it would sputter. The tach would just fluctuate around 0, and when it finally did die, it would sometimes backfire or smoke would come out the intake. I checked for spark on all my cylinders but by the time I got to the last one I stopped getting spark. I thought it may have been the ignition coil so I put a different blaster 2 coil to it and still nothing. Now I don't get spark to anywhere. I changed my spark plugs because they were fouled out. I also changed the cap and rotor. This had no effect on my problem. All symptoms point to a bad CKP but I was making sure it wasn't just the MSD that went bad. I also checked the female end of the wiring harness for the CKP with a test light and got no power to anything? I don't know if that is supposed to have power or not. My car had a code for a speed sensor before it broke down but now it doesn't have any codes at all. When my car is sputtering, pressing the throttle does nothing. Now I don't get any spark, so my car won't start. I was making sure that the MSD didn't just go bad before I dug down in and changed the sensor. Thanks for all of your help, I am young and inexperienced.

Chris.

When you say CKP you are referring to the distributor itself correct? Is the check engine light on?

The magnetic sensor on the crank itself. No, It was on before because the speed sensor but now it is off completely.

ckp is in the distributor. ckf is the crank sensor. ckf would not cause the car to run bad.

Well, I have been told by everyone that the Crank Fluctuation sensor is in the dizzy and the Crank Position sensor is on the crank. The one on the crank is for cooperating with the camshaft position sensor to tell the car when to get spark so it runs in time.

You might want to find a new source then.

CKP (distributor)

CKF (by the crank)

Now, that makes more sense. See, I don't know much. So, if I replace the whole dizzy my car should run fine?
Thanks a ton.

Ohm it out if you have a meter but more than likely it's gonna need a new distributor

How come I didn't have a check engine light?
and the CKP would make it to where I don't get any spark right?

Could it be my ICM? I checked my fuses, they were all good. Like I said before though, I was getting spark, less and less until I had no spark at all.

I checked all the sensors in the distributor and the ckf, all check out fine. It isn't throwing a code so I am going to guess it is the MSD or the ICM. I dunno -_-
I am young and inexperienced. Help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris.

No spark, no CEL, bouncing tach = check the ICM

(side note - also bring your distributor back to stock)

Okay, I went ahead and ordered a new ICM. I really hope that solves my problem.
Thanks.

Even though the symptoms fit with a bad ICM, without doing some testing, you risk paying for an expensive part for no reason.
