Civic Si vs Prelude
I know this sounds like a dumb *** question, but what kind of setup do i need in my 94 Civic Si to beat my **** talker friend's Prelude. He has a 2000 w/ an H22a. The only mods he has done to it is: DC sports header, greddy exhaust, performance clutch, and some heavy *** 18" Racing Hart Wheels. Thanks, i just want to put his foot in his mouth. oh, and b18c5 is unfortunately not an option i want to go with

You asked
Really a B16A, Jackson Supercharger on your D16Z6, B18C1, or an LS with some good cams would beat the **** out of the aforementioned Prelude.
That Prelude runs what stock? 15.6 maybe?
My stock 1992 Si hatch ran 15.6 with only an AEM intake, so you're not far off.

Re: Civic Si vs Prelude (Siturbohybrid)
He is probably running mid to low 15's (maybe high 14's, if he's a great driver) with that setup. As for what you need depends on how much you are willing to spend. If all motor, start with new cams Toda, Jun, Skunk2, then cam gears, titanitum retainers and springs for higher rpms, standalone engine management system. And now I'm tired of typing, but you get the idea. If you want to go turbo, go greddy or don't go at all. j/k

A good running B16A with i/h/e will probably net you high 14's (elevation permitting).
Does your car have ABS? Reason I ask is because those 1994-1995 Si hatches with ABS are notoriously heavy. I mean 2450lbs. heavy with a B-Series motor in them heavy.
If that's the case then a B18C1 will probably do the trick. An LS with cams and at least a GS-R tranny will probably rip pretty damn good too.
...Or boost your motor with a turbo or a supercharger.

Re: Civic Si vs Prelude (Trinity)
if your just building your car for a pissing contest and not for you, you are building it for the wrong reasons
I'm not the biggest fan of the "Car X vs. Car Y" threads because soon enough we'll have some pissed off Prelude owners coming in here telling us that their cars are faster than a swapped hatch, etc.
Plus Trinity's right:
If you don;'t build your car for you then you'll probably never be truly happy with it. Say you swap in a B18C1 and beat your Prelude buddy. What happens when a guy in a boosted GS-R starts "talking ****" on you.
You'll probably be unhappy again...
If this one turns ugly, it will be locked though. As long as some good tech info is derived from this e-drag racing thread then it's all good.

Re: Civic Si vs Prelude (B18C5-EH2)
Hey, I completely agree about the Car X vs Car Y posts are lame, and that's why this is the only one of its kind i will ever do, and i am building it for myself, i just want to know an estimate of what i will have to have before i challenge him. Yes, my car does have ABS and it is like you say notoriously heavy (about as heavy as an EX w/o ABS). There is another guy in town who has a b18c1 in his EG Si that is exactly like mine, and he has some headwork done along with the I/H/E setup and he can't keep up with the 'lude. Thats why i ask. His swap may just be a **** poor swap and from what i've heard his motor is about to go cause he sprayed one too many times. Thanks for the input, hoping more to come.

Re: Civic Si vs Prelude (Siturbohybrid)
if you can drive, a b16 would be all you need... H22 preludes aren't that fast seeing how it weighs like 3200 lbs and your si weighs about 2300... i think a b18c would be overkill, but fun... good luck

screw swappping!!
greddy turbo the biatch of use some n2o...
swapping is if u want a good n/a platform and paln to keep building...
u can get plenty of power from that stock motor...i shouldve stayed with my stock motor and built it for turbo...then i would be running much faster with just a couple hundred dollars over a swap..

Re: Civic Si vs Prelude (FifthGearOnline.com)
I don't know much about ludes but my friend has a brand new 1 and it runs pretty hard. All he has is i/h/e. He beats most GSR's and Si's. I think if you have a si it will take a little more than a stock b16 to beat him. If you get some bolt ons then i think it would be a good race.

Re: Civic Si vs Prelude (97hb)
An LS motor with good driving will do. I have an LS in my DX hatch and i take my friend's 2000 Prelude SH as long as i have a good launch, if i spin most of 1st, i have a hard time catching up, but that was a b18b with stock dx exhaust, stock intake, stock everything, he had a CAI. Now i have full itr cat back, shaved off about 150-200 lbs and a CAI, his *** is mine !!!

Re: Civic Si vs Prelude (jcnfh)
It's not just the ABS that adds so miuch weight. The 1994-1995 already weighs more because of the extra airbag, so the ABS system adds even more weight. A friend of mine has a 1995 Si hatch with ABS and it weighed 2450lbs. or so with a B18C5 swap in it.
As far as this thread goes, it's kind of going nowhere IMO. It's really hard to argue which car will do what on the street. If neither car has been to a strip then it's really impossible to even guage the quickness of the car and the skills of the drivers.
That's great if Billy Joe beats everyone else in his town with a Civic with a swap. Still doesn't mean much in our argument. Same with the sides that say that Preludes with i/h/e run good. They run good compared to what?
The downward spiral continues...for now.

Re: Civic Si vs Prelude (B18C5-EH2)
Its also the sunroof that adds all the weight to the 94-95 Si's, not just the ABS and the passenger side airbag. And my buddy's Prelude is a 5 speed.
