Civic Si Cluster
well i have a 99 civic i just put a 99-00 si cluster in and the gas guage doesnt come off of being over the F mark, i took it out unpluged the cluster and moved the gas guage needle down by hand to see if it would catch on. but then after i hook it back up it goes straight back to being full and i filled up like 150 miles ago and it is above the F mark. anyone have any ideas about whats going on or what i can check?

Don't know how it would get "corrosion", but might as well see what he' talking about...
Make sure all the little screws are tightened, and nothing is torn or burnt on the circuit paper on back.
Did your orignial cluster have a tach in it or no? Because if it did then the circuit panel and f/t guage are interchangeble between EX/Si. Just swap the faces of the guage.

He wouldn't swap just the face, but the whole f/t gauge. That's probably what you meant but I just wanted to clarify.

Re: Civic Si Cluster (klungemonger)
yea my old one had the tach in it and everything, so just swap mine and the si one out and take the face of the si to match and it should all be the same then?

No. Take the whole gauge assembly (fuel/temp gauge) and replace the Si one with the old one. Once you get it apart, it will be pretty straightforward.

I think somewhere in all that what I meant came out!!!
Let me clarify...take your old guage, remove the needle & face, put the face & needle from the Si onto the mechanism and put that in your cluster.
Don't just change guages or you'll have 2 red guages and a blue/white one!!!

Removing & installing the guage is very easy, just take off the 4 screws on back and it practically falls out! The part that requires finesse is removing the needle without breaking it, so be carefull with that!

Search and see if you can find another temp/fuel gauge for really cheap. Once You take the needles off, it is very hard to get them to line up correctly again. Or so I have heard from MANY people. Of course, as long as you get pretty close, it shouldn't matter too much with those gauges.

Re: Civic Si Cluster (nighttrain33)
my stock eg ex cluster was taken from me and replaced with another that had no tach. Two things were wrong when I picked up from the shop, one was the tach missing and the fuel and temp had their own gauges, two was the mileage, seems like my car went to Fountain of Youth repair shop. Shop denied it, I went to court with the title that me and the shop signed that the car at the time of purchase had 156k miles and now it has 134k miles. I won and didn't have to finish off paying them for the car. But the my fuel gauge is also stuck at 1/2 way mark, I have to keep my eye on the mileage since I know I get 250 miles to the tank. Buying an SI cluster from an HT member and will see if that works.
How do you remove the cluster from the dash anyhow?

you take off the bezel that is around the cluster (my 99 ex) they should be 2 screws holding it there, then take that off. then they are 4 screws holdingt he cluster in place undue them, them unplug the plugs and you cluster is out. took me like maybe 5 mins to take my ex one out and put in the si one. did it while i was waiting for for at a food place.

Re: Civic Si Cluster (kleanlscivic)
The 92-95 Si and EX clusters are the same.
96-00 clusters have no screws holding the housing and bezels together, just the plastic barbs. You just have to press the clips and push out, first the clear cover, then the black surround, then the plate over the guages you just pull off, nothing holds it down except the other black thing.

do NOT, I repeat do NOT pull the needles off to replace the faces. You will break it and then have to buy a new secion.
Test your old one first, then swap the entire section for a test. If it reads correctly, buy a new section.

Re: (pdiggitydogg)
Good plan, plus since he can get a new one for only $25 it's a waste of time to try working on it yourself, only to probably have to get a new one in the end anyhow when you break the stuff...

I actually have this excat same problem.
I got a 96 ex, everything worked fine.
Put in a 99 Si cluster - tested it and it worked fine.
Then I took it apart to rolle the milage forward to match the cars milage. When I put it back in the gas gauge went to Full and stayed.
I thought it was weird so I put the stock cluster back in, and again the cluster went to Full and stayed.
Everything else works fine, just goes to Full.
Id love to know how to fix this.
