Civic Shopping
My daughter has an 89 Civic with 180K. It drinks oil and the body is a wreck but it drives great and has been very reliable. Nevertheless, it is tme for an upgrade. I'm thinking about another Civic, 4 doors, manual, under 100K, LX or better. There's a great repair shop I take my Hondas to, they work only on Hondas and run a salvage yard. They are batting 100 percent with me. The owner said '94 up are all fine vehicles. Is it that simple? Are there any lemons out there? I'm thinking of spending $5K or so on the vehicle and have another $1K ready for the boys down at the shop. Looks like I could end up with something between 94 and 99. Can you folks give me a little history lesson on gen changes etc in that period? Are there any jewels I should seek out or dogs to avoid? Thank you for your input.

Actually, 92 - present day Honda's are all good cars in my book. In 92 honda implemented the OBD1 ecu into their cars, thus making them economical, reliable, yet still very high potentual for upgrades. The later gens such as 96 - 00 models all run OBD2 (beefier emmision components ). These honda's are even more economical, gas sippers..... I think you know what I mean.
Any Civic with less than 100K will last you another 10+ years "EASY". So take your pick And have fun. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, folks.
You guys are giving me the warm fuzzy feeling about buying another Civic. 96 up sounds like the way to go. I know DX LX and EX. What's an HX?

Thank you for info. I think she prefers the sedan to the hatchback. Going for 4 door LX or EX, non smoker (engine), manual. 96 up seems like way to go.

HX is not the lowest end hatch, if thats what you were saying.
It's a 96+ coupe. Has the d16y5. Gets 43 mpg on the highway, has power windows/locks, very light alloy wheels, armrest center console, and is just a tad more expensive than the dx. The only complaint about it is no cruise control.

You are right. I thought HX was hatchback, but it's high mileage or high economy or something like that. Sounds even better. Thanks for the tip.
