Re: civic question
it ia highly recommended that you go ahead and replace the water pump and timing while you are swapping heads. which head do you have btw?

Re: civic question
the non-vtec motor has a waterpump with 19 teeth. the vtec waterpump has 22 teeth. this is simple, it means - when the 19 tooth pump starts spinning faster than it should be (above 5600 rpm) then it will simply churn the water/coolant in the cooling system and start creating bubbles. this will create air in the cooling system and cause the cooling system to suck ***. it won't cool right.
when you get the 22 tooth vtec waterpump, and you hit high rpm (vtec) the pump will circulate the water the way honda designed, without bubbles, without air, and your vehicle will cool properly.
the timing belt, i dunno specifics. don't get the wrong waterpump, or your car will overheat and suffer.
