Civic Dx Random not starting problem
1999 Civic Dx. Bone Stock.
Every once in a while the car will not start. Itll turn over. Battery is fine. It just wont fire.
Plugs, cap , rotor , wires ,fuel filter etc . All recent. This has been happening randomly over the last few years. Only happens once or twice a year.
Sometimes you can get it started if you pump the gas . Itll sputter and struggle but itll eventually start. Naturally the garage will wreak like gas after that.
The other times the car is just left alone. Later on itll start just fine.
Its not a super big deal as it only happens a couple times a year but it still is somewhat annoying and not normal. Im just trying to figure out what it might be.
Is this a common issue with these cars?
thanks

Re: Civic Dx Random not starting problem (SiRkid)
Next time the problem comes up, determine whether there is no spark at the plugs or whether the fuel pump fails to activate. This information should help focus your troubleshooting efforts.

Is it hot outside when this happens? Check if the main relay clicks and the fuel pump primes when switching the key to on. Main relays have a typical life span of aprox. 8 years, and have crappy soldering jobs from stock. When it gets real hot outside, the dry solders act up and cause no-start.
