Civic Acting Up - PLEASE HELP!
Hey, quick question, hopefully there is a quick (and cheap) solution. So I bought a 1992 Honda Civic EG, the motor had been swapped out before I bought the car. The car has a motor from a 2000 Acura EL it is a 1.6L SOHC VTEC (D16Y8). When I drive the car slow everything is fine, but when I punch on the gas (to get on the highway or pass a slow car) the motor bogs, it bogs pretty rough after 5000-5500 rpm. So I changed the distributor cap and rotor, plugs, wires, cleaned out the acv, brand new fuel filter, and had the timing done and this still has not fixed my problem. There is a full exhaust, headers back, and the car seems to be running a bit rich (backfires 90% of the time I change gears) Anyone have any ideas on what I should do next? Another note, the fuel filter I put in was for a 92 Honda Civic Si and not a Acura EL, could it be this? Or perhaps the VTEC solenoid? PLEASE HELP! This has been driving me nuts!

well, vtec on a d16y8 hit's at 5,500 rpms if ur runnin the correct ecu/wiring harness considering u say it's been
swapped in there that may be ur issue (wrong ecu and/or harness)..umm if the plugs, wires,o2 sensors, dizzy, and all
fuel system parts are working fine u shouldn't have a cut out at high rpms...all of the y8's i've ever been in
i could hear the switchover into vtec, can u hear urs? check the ecu and make sure everything is wired rite. good luck

no codes, my check engine light is not on, i know what you are saying about hearing VTEC "crack" and i do not hear it, i thought my exhaust drowned out the noise, im going to test it tomorrow and i just came back from picking up a fuel filter, gonna try it out, i never thought of the wiring, going to look into that. Thanks so much

Sounds like cam timing, did u check the timing marks on the cam gear and crank pulley. Set tdc on cylinder 1 and check the marks on the cam gear and pulley
