Civic 1999 - run permanently with no ignition lock
HI folks,
I have an old civic run around that has had the ignition lock start playing up, usual story of jiggling to get the key to turn, NOT the steering lock.
Anyhoo I see the replacement is straight forward but as its a cheap run around that doesn't get parked anywhere likely to get pinched i'd like to just remove the lock and save the 20 quid. Can anyone recommend an easy way to achieve this? Thinking of just removing the lock, putting in a wee screwdriver and have a small pocket for the key (chipped) to sit in close enough to be read. Or perhaps get fancy and put in a switch?
I am aware of the theft risk of this but in the grand scheme im not fussed.
Cheers guys, any advice appreciated.

I would just fix it right and replace the lock set. That way it's actually taken care of and you never have to worry about it being an easy target for theft. Just my 2 cents on it, but I don't trust anybody.

You could take the cylinder out, and remove all the wafers so it will turn freely with any key (or a screwdriver or whatever). Then it still looks stock, and it holds your key in place so the chip reads.

If you haven't replace the key that just means the key itself is worn out and isn't hitting certain tumblers correctly, therefore you have to jiggle the key to turn the ignition.

I took out the two small screws on the back side of the lockset there's what starts your civic. Cut and soldered them to toggle switches accordingly. Then with 3/8" drill bit drill through the vertical cylinder. A spring will wrap the drill bit. Remove the drill. A pin falls out bypassing steering wheel lock
