hey i picked up a used set of gauges for my 97 civic hx, im wondering how to add miles to the cluster to make it right with the factory! Anybody know how?

get your local dealer to do it and certify it.

on the back, where the speedo cable would hook in there should be a small square or such that the cable end seats in. Find yourself a small flathead screwdriver bit that would fit in a power drill and the flathead part should be small enough to fit in the squared hole of the speedo. Put the bit in an airpowered sander or grinder, then insert the bit into the back of the speedo and go to town. You can use just a power drill but it will take a while. When I broke my speedo needle completely off of my old subaru when putting in indiglo gauges, I had to get one from the junkyard. My car had 97,xxx on it and the one I pulled had about 150,xxx. I had to spin it backwards with a drill, I quit after about 5 miles on the guage but going forward you should have no problem with just a few minutes.

its too bad that since 1992 MOST hondas have had electronic VSS's instead of the old-fashioned cable operated cavemen-like technology

Well if that's the case then yea it wouldn't help him. I wasn't aware of what models have electronic VSS, just trying to give an idea in case it would help.

Just pull the entire speedo section from your stock cluster. That's what I did for my CX when I got an EX cluster.

I called down at my local dealership today to see how much for a civic cluster. . . estimated : $1,100 just for the parts

call around or open a phone book there are shops around that do speedo calibrations. it shouldn't cost all that much to have it done and then it will be certified. Talk to your local mechanic or even the dealer they should be able to point you in the right direction

i read your posting last night. and stared at that cluster for about an hour trying to figure out what you wrote!!! im glad someone posted that it wasnt right years! I am alittle slow when im tired!! HAHA
